Outside transformer blew, now TV doesn't work

The other day I had a transformer go down in my neighborhood. The TV does not work now. Any suggestions as to what the problem may be? Does this TV have a fuse that can be replaced, possibly power supply? This thing cost too much to throw in the trash!

Ok, after searching high and low for the fuses and driving over 100 miles to get them, as soon as I plugged it in.... POOF! There goes the fuse. There is what looks like a transistor of some kind right next to the fuse which looks blown up as well. I guess it's time to take it to a professional?

If the fuse is blown black, you should never ever put in another fuse as a fuse will not blow up like that for no reason, as a fuse is there to prvent further damage to the set. and damage to other parts.

I hope is only a fuse and it will not be hard to find it should be close to where the power cord goes in and it has to be replaced with the same amps and size.Make sure the set is not plug in whe you remove the lower back and once you replace it put the back cover on and plug it in,if more damage is present it will blow up again right away or it will blow up when you push the power button,I hope it doesn't but if it does you will need someone qualified to check the rest.Be careful

I have a self-installed Leviton TTI06-1LM dimmer (600w capacity) that controls a halogen light that uses 12x 12v/20w (140w total) halogen lights. The dimmer works fine, but once a day, or perhaps every...

Your issue is that the dimmer is not rated to handle the type of fixture/lamps its controlling.

From a lighting control standpoint, the 12V-lamps classify as "low-voltage halogen" and, somewhere in that circuit, have a transformer(s) converting the 120V~ down to 12V~. Using incandescent dimmers (like the one you are using) can cause compatibility issues with those transformers. What I suspect is happening is that the incompatibily is either throwing voltage spikes or current spikes on the line which are causing the dimmer to enter some sort of "safety" mode to shut everything down before any problems occur.

My recommendation is to first figure out what type of transformer it is: Either magnetic low-voltage, or electronic low-voltage. Ideally you would contact the transformer manufacturer (or look up their specs online) to figure that out. Other rules of thumb: if the transformer's big & bulky, it's probably magnetic - conversely if its lightweight, it's probably electronic. If its only one transformer controlling all of the lamps together, it's probably magnetic - conversely if its one of those transformers where the transformer and light bulb come togheter as one assembled unit and then snap into the track, it's probably electronic.

Then make sure the dimmer is rated for magnetic low-voltage, or electronic low-voltage (depending upon what the transformer is).

I have a GE home security system. Last week there was a power surge due to a blown transformer in the neighborhood. A few hours afterward the systems siren sounded & would not turn off. So we...

It might not hurt to try the "Microsoft Solution" and reboot the system. First disconnect the AC power then disconnect the battery. Wait 1 minute then reconnect the battery and reconnect the AC power.See ifyou can arm and disarm the system. Then reconnect the siren and try again to arm and disarm the panel. If the keypads beep it can usually give you an error code that will help you pinpoint the problem.

I have a 42in flat screen toshiba It turned off one day when we where watching it.Will not turn on checked power bar the tv power chord unplugged it and tried to turn it on nothing works. Was a good tv up...

Seems like the problem of transformer inside the television. It might be damaged due to irregularities in voltage or during lightning. I suggest try replacing the transformer. It is very cheap. But when purchasing a new one get the best product available in the market or else you will face the same problem again sooner.

Fuzzy picture, color and volume comes and goes

the main chip in the TV that controls all these options (sound - sharpness etc...) you will need to bring this TV into a repair shop - the transformer that blew up caused a voltage surge that fried this chip
