Marie - you said "reinstalled my sound card" but I think you might mean "uninstalled my sound card" (i.e. removed it). There is a difference. Can you confirm? is this XP or Vista? Do you have the driver CD that came with the computer?

Not installed the sound drivers on the computer

Hi,

Finding eMachine drivers can be a frustrating task.

Have a look here though:

http://www.e4allupgraders.info/dir1/motherboards/socket478/D845GVSR_downloads.shtml

Scroll down until you see Audio: Realtek & Audio: Soundmax.

You will need one of these drivers but I'm not 100% sure which one you will need but my best guess would be the Realtek Driver.

So try the Realtek file first and if that doesnt work then you could also try the Soundmax file after.

I hope this helps

Mike

Emachine motherboard no model number

Check out this site provided for a program called SIW. Download the free english version and install. It will tell you everything about your computer that you ever needed to know. Check the motherboard section for your specifics, and try the sound card section to see teh specifics on your card. This will help you in your search for the correct drivers.

I was told that my sound card probably got shorted out but i dont think so it is telling me that no sound device is installed

Go to:
http://www.emachines.com/support/product_support.html

Select your emachine type and download the sound driver for it. Install the driver and restart the computer. Check and see if the sound card was properly installed.

Reinstalling the disk

If you mean that you removed the software drivers for the sound card, yes you can re-install the drivers if you have the CD disk that contains the driver software. Carefull though, make sure your just loading the driver software for the sound card and not re-insatlling the whole operating system!

No sound

i think you need to reinstall the sound driver and check whether it appears in the CONTROL PANEL->SOUND AND AUDIO DEVICES. When you click the sound and audio device, your sound driver name should appear. If problem persists then it might be hardware problem.
