Question about Karcher 1750 psi Electric Pressure Washer

Motor/pump pulses--like a rapid on/off rather than a steady hum

The last time I used my sprayer, it wouldn't spray at all, and the user manual led me to believe that there was air in the pump. I followed manufacturer's instructions, and now it's spraying. But, the motor and/or pump seems to be malfunctioning when the sprayer arm is not activated. It's a "rum - rum - rum" pulsing sound with "beats" about a second apart, rather than a steady hum of a motor. It draws down the electricity in my garage with each pulse--the lights dim. When I'm actually spraying, the motor seems to level out--and the lights are okay. I'll appreciate your advice. I'm a widow, and I can't afford to call a repairman every time I would have ordinarily turned to my dear husband. Thanks.

I have a 3 year old, lightly used KB9030 doing this pulse trick. It's ok when spraying, though I think pressure is a bit less than it used to be. In addition, after about 10-15 minutes minutes use the motor cuts out completely, and won't start for about 15 minutes. Now I'm a reasonably skilled DIY-er, and have stripped the machine down several times to investigate, but with no luck. One suggestion from the web was that it was the control head, which I've dismantled, examined and result.! Also, I've tried changing the inlet pressure. Do I look for a new one?

    Thanks, Ferg

Same problem as above, spray ok no external leakage, motor is 100%,I replaced, cylinder head k 200,valve cage and spring, its still doing the same problem.I electrician/Refrigeration Mechanic by trade, and spill valve where about is that the valve cage or something else, and i got the manuel right in front me i couldn`t see the name of spill valve.believe me not even a spit of water dry as a bone easy to know that is loosing pressure the suction chemical valve keep going in and out.because is the on that when it fill with pressure it goes off and you hit the rigger it release and switch back on.

    thanks a lot

    Hi "Its alive",

It looks like that you know what you are talking about, but I cannot figure it out:
What is the "control head"? HP side I assume stands for high pressure?

I removed the yellow cover, and the rho pipes. I found a small metal thing with a red plastic attached. The red plastic has four holes on it... looks like some kind of filter... I tried cleaning it out, it didn't help

Replace the control head. Water leaks from the HP side, through the o-ring on the piston to LP side. This then triggers the machine to start since it's lost the 120bar pressure which is required to keep the machine off. If you can source the correct size of o-ring just change it out. If not use E-spares for the part which costs £12

Good morning to all
I am an Italian and working in a repair Karcher. After reading your post I can say with certainty that your problem is the breaking of a component of the pump called collector. The breaking of this component leads to a continuing power of the machine for 10 minutes and the loss of pressure during the operation. To repair should consult your local Karcher.

I suppose it is to Karcher's benefit that repairs require a Karcher repair shop to complete them?

Be careful of freezing, the design of these machines is poor and any residual water inside will freeze and break components. In Italy it obviously never gets cold, but if you live anywhere it freezes, take the machine inside for the winter, I guess, Yes, inconvenient and messy, but parts are expensive!

Dear Brainpicker,
I think..(with all respect)...that the last time you used your sprayer, you swwitched it off and left it with pressure in the system. When one finishes using such machines, it is important that the pressure is released by pressing the gun. If these machines are stored with pressure still in the system, damage will be done to various parts, especially the spill valve. This is also more importantant for SAFETY reasons. The fault you have is most probably from the spill valve. In this case it should be changed with a new one. This job can only be carried out by a specialised technician. I wish to add, that this problem could also be caused by leakage. Check if the gun is leaking when it is closed. Also check if you see any water under the machine. This means the head is leaking. Very sorry but this problem requires a qualified technician or a person with expirience.

Electric Pressure washer hums but does not work.

guess is that someone started it without water...and seized the piston. You can try spraying silicon spray into the water intake (lots of it) and then see if that frees the piston. You can start it for a moment without water after spraying silicon into the intake. The alternate ( not recommented) is to open the pump housing and spraying directly into the piston to free it up.... Good luck.

i'm sorry to say but if you happen to have a vertical motor you'll be better off buying a new pump for 150.00 online.if you see the casing is made of pot metal which corrodes from the impurities of water mainly chlorine.stay away from pressure washers that have a shaft downward like a lawn mower they much like consumer use only for residential 1 to 3 times a year.find one with a horizontal shaft where you can have a much better chance of getting it fix or get replaceable parts for.feel free to question me i've been in this business for 30 years.
ps a replacement pump with a solid brass head would be better the main killer to these pumps is that they leave the unit running with trigger closed which causes pump tp rapidly heat up and cause failure you must squeeze trigger within 3 to 4 minutes tops so that the heated water in pump head has been released.

My washer does not spray the cleaner solution as high as it did originally. The high pressure spray is fine.

If your pressure washer works like ours, it has a T connection.
A plastic hose comes off the T and goes into the bucket of cleaner
Pressure from the hose creates suction across the T and this draws cleaner into pressure hose
The plastic hose from cleaner connects to a small brass ball valve on the T
The ball valve clogs up or changes over time and cleaner will not draw up into the pressure hose.
We would replace the valve stem
I don't know if they sell the little replacement parts like they used to

Finally we had so much trouble.
We started applying our chemical with a pump-up sprayer.
For us, it was cheaper, and the work went faster.
We put one guy on the pump up sprayer
And then another guy came behind him on the washer.

The pump is blocked or the motor shaft going into the pump is seized. You will need to remove enough of the cover to expose the shaft and pump..... You can try WD-40 or a penetrating oil from a spray can... and then try to rotate the shaft by had or "carefully" with a tool - vice grips or plyers......

What kind of oil do I use in my pressure sprayer gemric brands to

Check with your local hardware store and your owners manual. Usually the oil to be used in a motor like that is SAE 20 3-in-1 oil that can be picked up at any hardware store. It comes in a red white and light blue bottle. (Note: Do not mistake it for the 2-in-1 oil that comes in the black and white bottle).

Craftsman pressure washer #580761810 will not dispense detergent.

Karchers are known as one shot wonders, The pump used on them is an aluminum alloy that powders when you use any type of chlorine/bleach detergent in them at all. My advice is to use it as just a pressure washer and spray the detergent with a hand pump garden sprayer. The pump and parts are so expensive that its not worth the time or money to try to repair. I also feel that if you are not a monthly user of this machine it is much more cost effecient to rent one for the day when you need one.A reputible rental price is about 30 dollars for 4 hours or 50 for 24 hours.Good luck

Trying to find how i can build my own trailer mounted sprayer for dust control

No need to re-invent the wheel when building your trailer mounted sprayer. Your local Northern tool Store, or at the address below,

you will find all the parts that you will need to complete your project. I have purchased several different types of sprayers, tanks, pressure pumps and parts from them over the years. They have a helpfull staff and most parts are in stock. Take a look at ready made trailer mounted sprayers there to pattern yours after then design in your special needs.
My first portable sprayer was made from four 55 gallon drums loaded onto the back of my pickup. For the pump I used a modified 2" trash/water pump reduced to 1' pipe then seven nozzles. Worked great however 220 gallons of water did not last very long. Problems began with the weight of water in large quantity. I decided I needed about 1000 gallons and found that I needed to deal with about 7500 lbs of weight. Oh well, enough already, good luck with your project and email if you have questions.

Karcher/Winner 11 - motor pulses when hose is not operating

Hi, I had the same problem, Replaced the O rings and the rubber seals and cups inside the pressure washer and eventually the hose itself burst. Turns out the hose was leaking, internally between the inner sheath and the outside plastic cover, for quite some time and this caused the pulse. New hose and pressure cleaner is as good as new.
