Question about Biostar K8M800 Micro AM2 Motherboard

1 Answer

I can't boot from CD. Can't boot previously installed OS

I jus purchased a Biostar K8M800 Micro A2 motherboard combo with an AMD Sempron Processor LE-1100. I setup evertything and power up, it goes though the POST shows that I have a HDD and an optical drive etc. When I try to boot from the OS to install the OS, it goes to the boot from CD prompt, then the cursor jumps down a line then, it says "NTLDR missing. CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart". How do I overcome this and install the OS or boot from a previously installed OS?

Hi Mike. I did set it to first boot from CD. And I'm using the OS setup disc, but it still does not work. When I start the machine, I see the drive light flashing, but when I select boot from CD, it stops and does not blink after that. IT seems to be skipping the boot from CD part and keeps looking to the HD from the OS, cause it keeps saying "NTLDR missing". The HD is formatted already. I just want to install the OS and setup the machine.

Thanks Mike. I'd try that in the morning. However, I noticed that the RAM I have installed is DDR2 800. Looking on the Biostar website, they had DDR2 533/667. I don't know if that would make some differnece.

    Good morning Mike,
thanks for your time and effort last night. I've gotten past my 'non-booting' problems. It was just as you thought, the OS cd was a copy. I'm using an original DVD now and the OS is proceeding to install.
Thanks again for your time and effort. If anything else comes up, I'd be sure to let you know!! :-)

Hi, Make sure that you set the POST first boot to CD. If the disk is a bootable disc, you should be able to boot from the CD. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me ASAP. Thanks, Mike

    Hi Again,

There could be four things that has to be checked.

1- Is the OS disc an original disc or a copy? If orginal then proceed to step 2.

2- Go back into the BIOS and set it to the default setting. Make sure you hit save settings before you reboot. Reboot and lets see if the system will boot from the CD/DVD drive.
If not, Go back into the BIOS and confirm that the first boot is set to the "correct" CD/DVD drive ( just in case you have two disk drive).

3- If the BIOS settings are correct then power the system off. Remove the HDD and replace it with the CD/DVD drive. Boot the system and see if it will boot from the OS CD. If not, go back into the BIOS and set it to first boot from the HDD (since now we have the CD/DVD drive connected to the IDE line and cable.

If the system starts to boot with the OS disc, then the problem lies with a defective IDE cable.

4- If so far the system does not boot with the OS CD, then the problem lies with the CD. Clean it, it might be dirty or scratched.

    Let me know the outcome.

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi,

If it was a ram issue, you would not be able to get into the BIOS.

Instead you will hear a continues beep, or the system will appear dead, or you will receive a message that indicate unsupported memory module.

    Good Night,

    Mike
