Question about Kenmore 62232 / 62234 / 62239 Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

Freezer not defrosting

We are renting a house and this refrigerator came with the house, so I know nothing about it. The freezer is frosted up in the back and is not keeping frozen things frozen. I did not realize there was a non frost-free freezer made these days!! What do I do besides defrost it??

    My Kenmore is model 596.62234200. It has the same symptoms (freezer frosts up until refer won't cool. I defrost manually and it's good for about 2 weeks, when it frosts up again.)

    So, I'm ready to try replacing the bimetal. Can you tell me where, exactly it is on my unit, and the part number to order?

    My refrigerator is not keeping things that cold and my freezer is frosting up. I manually defrosted the freezer and things got colder, but the freezer keeps frosting up.

The reason it is not defrosting is one of three things. First and most likely is that the Defrost Thermestat (aka BiMetal) is open and needs to be replaced, secondly it could be that the defrost timer is bad and lastly the heater can be bad. The bimetal and heater are found behind the back panel in the freezer section. The time is usually located near the controls in the fridge section. I would need you entire model number to tell you exactly where it is. To replace the either part is fairly straight forward. With the full model number I can walk you through the easiest way to test each part.

James answer worked great for me . I replaced the defrost timer , located behind the light bulb plate in the fridge. Defrosted the freezer manually before replacing timer. Back to normal. My bottom freezer kenmore only costs about 5- 6 dollars a month to operate. Thank you James . Thank you The part arrived in less than 2 days. :) Very happy with the whole experience. Back of freezer has frost and freezer wont cool to proper temp. icemaker etc also not working

Did you leave the freezer door open for a period of time while the refrigerator was running? Unplug and defrost the freezer manually with a hair dryer until all frost is removed inside and in back of the freezer. Reapply power and see if it will then cool/freeze properly. Let me know the results

I have a GE model TFX30PPDACC. It had frost in the freezer on back panel. Changed defrost timer and defrosted the coils. Lasted 10 days before enough frost built back up and refrigerator temp climbed....

thats what it will do when nothing frozen is in the freezer,you should hear the defrost heater popping if theres frost or ice melting off the evaporator coil in the rear area of the freezer its working ok

Need to replace door seal on Dometic NDR 1292 model that is 10 yrs. old. Freezer is nothing but frost! How would I know how to get one? Thank you. Kirk

Many of the on-line appliance parts stores have manuals. Simply search for your model refrigerator, and they will show you exploded views of your refrigerator. You can pick the part you need and order it.

Just because the freezer is full of frost doesn't mean the door seal is bad. More likely, you have a problem with the defrost circuit. If you defrost the freezer, and it freezes up again within a short time, then the problem is in your defrost circuit. Those same on-line appliance parts stores can provide you with those parts as well.

Defrost cycle is not working correctly. Bad defrost timer, heater or limit thermostat.

My lower level freezer has frost build up. It is

the unit is experiencing a defrost issue one of 3 things bi-metal thermostat clipped to the evap.... defrost heater element is now open or very little resistance reading or defrost timer unit you can get fix remove the items in freezer and remove the back panel with hairdryer in hand thaw the frost and unit will oper normal for a time

Freezer building up with frost

Sounds like the defrosting system has a faulty timer/board, faulty heating element or bad electrical connections to these components.

Unknown water leak from the ice maker, thus freeze build up

the frost on the back wall tells me its not defrosting.this will happen 2 to 3 times a day.if defrost system working their would not be frost.hencethe term con firm this sence you defrosted this unit it should work in all ways for a day or 2 lets stop here and you let me know what happens

Daewoo Fridge Freezer not getting cold

Possible problems are a bad evaporator fan motor or a defrost problem. If the back panel in the freezer is frosted up then it is a defrost problem. If no frost listen for the fan in the freezer. If you don't hear it then it may be the problem. Not circulating the cold air.
