Question about Netopia 2247NWG-VGx Wireless Router (2247NWGVGX)

1 Answer

Vpn I have a Netopia 2247 NWG adsl/router , whose only one LAN port is used and connected to the WAN port of a BEVFP41 Linsksys router VPN. Netopia: LAN: 192.168.0.1 NAT ON, port 500 Fwded to 192.168.0.10 IPsec enabled (but no tunnels defined) Linksys: WAN: 192.168.0.10 LAN: 192.168.1.1 NAT ON, DHCP ON VPN tunnel defined (ESP, IKE) subnet with 10 PC (192.168.1.x) On a remote PC (out of those networks) I try to connect (GreenBow Client) to the wan IP of the Netopia (my public static IP address) . When I log the Linksys VPN status, I can see the 1st phase of the exchange and then it stops like there is no agreement on key exchange. I am sure the key/crypto settings are matched. Do someone have an idea why ?? is it a NAT problem (IPSEC on Linksys after BEFVP41)? Thanks so much

This is not so much a soloution but an idea!
from memory the netopia devices allow you to configure a dmz device by IP or MAC address.

I have had to do something similar but with a buffalo unit instead of your linksys. I ended up having to place the buffalo unitin into a dmz created on the netopia unit. before VPN tunnles were formed correctly.

VPN connection - Client cannot connect

Hi mwells960

Theres alot of differnet things i could ask you, but im going to assume you're jsut setting up a basic VPN. That means that somebody is telecommuting to work and wants to hit the server at work.

That means you have a static ip at work, and your at home workers has whatever, a internet connection lets say. Im thinking DSL with ATT since its a netopia 3347N.

If the netopia has a gui interface, you cant vpn thru it. Its not a VPN router. Its a residential router that you're trying to make do too much.

The sad news is, you can't upgrade it to an Enterprise having firmware router anymore, netopia use to offer that, but when Motorolla bought them out last year, they did away with that nice little feature. For true VPN'ing with a router, first, go get a VPN router to start with.

Most people accomplish what you are doing by putting the netopia in to bridegemode, and then putting a VPN router like a linksys behind it.

Using DI-804hv, I can connected to vpn but not to LAN

First set up an static IP address on your computer with a range 192.168.3.x, once you connect to the DI go to >> LAN Settings and change there the DI IP to be in your range of 192.168.2.x.

If you use win XP here is a link how to set up a static IP with your computer:

Configure VPN

That 3Com really doesn't have a wahy of setting up a VPN.
As per the 3Com site it:
Support of VPN termination/initiation and passthrough allows secure connection to central office and/or secure access from remote workers.
So it will allow 3rd party VPN setups to pass through, but it doesn't have the ability to create one.
You might want to look into something like a Netgear Firewall
