The trim ring on the double din radio pops off with careful prying, then remove the 4 screws around the radio frame and ease it out. Disconnect the radio harness and antennae right behind where the stereo was is the ECU held in by 3 10 mm bolts.

Have replaced computer twice that both burned out in very short time apart and now having it checked I need to replace another computer what could be causing my computer system to burn out so quickly

ill start with....... any time youmpost an automotive question you need to let us know the year make model and engine size!

the computer controls and monitors many different things. there has to be something that the computer is looking at or controlling that is failing. Tat part that is failing is being overlooked. When the computer fails what is not working? That is what you need to figure out. Once that is figured out the part tat is not working can be repaired and then, and only then, can the computer can be replaced with the confidence of a proper repair.

computers generally do not fail. its the components that are tied top the computer that fail that cause the computer to then fail.

I got a computer use and it will not start the how do you reset

A used computer is not a good replacement. The computer could be bad, a static discharge while replacing the computer could have damaged it. The coil could be bad. Does the computer communicate with a scan tool? Is there spark at the plugs? Is there fuel pressure at the Schrader valve? Computers are not reset, they are flashed (programed) for the vehicle they are installed in.

What is ecu?

A few Japanese car makers, maybe others too, use different terminology for the same system that today manages all vehicles, the computer controlled engine management system. The ECU -Electronic Control Unit- is the computer of the system, has a lot of sensors, and output switches and controls to run the engine under all operating conditions. Just like other makes, American cars for instance, call the computer the ECM - Electronic Control Module, or sometimes PCM- Powertrain Control Module. Different terminology, but all mean the engine computer. Now that computers are proliferating in vehicles- computers to run many different systems-the engine computer is considered the primary computer on the car. The ECU in your case.

1995 ford ranger pcm blowing

It's the fuse for the engine computer, anyway, don't know what else. But it could be a bad computer, or more likely, a short in the wiring to the computer. Pull off the connector to the computer and start checking wires for melted insulation, or a broken wire. Pull off the negative battery cable and run continuity checks on the power wires to the computer. You may have to pull some of the engine harness apart to check wiring-it can be very tedious-if you can't find any bad wiring, a short, then it may be a shorted computer.

THE CHECK LIGHT COMES ON AND THE MOTOR STOPS. TOWED TO KIA . THEIR TECHNICIAN RUNS DIAGNOSTIC TEST (COST 400$ +) AND DO NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. TELLS THAT THE COMPUTER IS TOTALLY BURNED AND HAS TO BE...

To be able to tell if the computer is the problem, there are certain steps that need to be taken before you can just say the computer is bad. You can test the computer, but the price of disassembling the whole dashboard and so forth to test the computer for the results to come back that the computer is good would cost you more money instead of doing other tests to find out if something else is causing a problem or if the computer has failed and it must be replaced.

There is not a computer reset button installed on the car anywhere you need to have a computer that connects to the ecu on the car (the cars computer) with the computer attached you can reset codes or reset the computer.

What does the ETS off light on the dash mean

Hello there
let me try to explain it the best way i can

If you are talking about the light coming on when you are driving in slippery conditions, this is normal. If you are talking about it staying on all the time, the ets is either turned off or you have another problem. Let?s take a moment and explain why the electronic traction control which is called Enhanced Traction System (ETS) warning light will turn on when the engine computer sees a problem. The ETS system monitors wheel speed via the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS). If the ETS system sees a wheel spinning due to snow, ice, rain etc., the ETS computer sends a request to the vehicle?s engine computer to reduce torque. The engine computer responds with a combination of strategies. In the engine computer?s bag of tricks to stop wheel spin it can perform any one or combination of the following; cut fuel off by trimming or turning off fuel injectors, ****** the spark timing or up shift the transmission. In the days of old we just let up on the gas pedal. Now the computer does it for you. If you have an engine running problem it is more of a problem than you realize. The engine computer is the high command center. The engine computer will work and respond to information from the other computers in the vehicle. But in the event there is a system or running problem that the engine computer is responsible for, ?it will? lock out all of the other vehicle computers. If there is an engine running problem that causes the engine computer to store a code and turn on the ?Check Engine? light guess what computer doesn't talk to the others? The engine computer. The ETS computer gets all put out when this occurs and turns its warning light on in protest. So, there you have it. If the check engine light is on the ETS warning light will come on as well and the ETS system will not operate until the engine computer problem is corrected.

GM computers have a chip called an Eprom The computer and chip must match up if you put the wrong eprom or computer together the computer will not read. There are four computers for this model, you can take the orginal computer to a auto parts store and buy a rebuilt computer and e-prom for your vin number then plugh the rebuilt computer with correct eprom and your ready to go. I believe there are six updates for the e-prom so be sure to have the orginal computer and e-prom number to replace it with exact one. Cost $125.00 Rebuilt maybe slightly more.
