I'm using the power supply that came with it. No, the screen doesn't come on. Just the power light. Thanks for your help.

Are you using the correct rated power supply for the DVD player, is it the official power supply that came with it. Sometimes problems like these occure when a replacement "universal" adapter is used and the voltage and current rating is incorrect for the item.

Also does the screen come on or is it just the power light which turns on?

Hello
Just clean its laser pickup lens, by inserting a lens cleaning disc in to, and play it at least two times. If it doesn't help you, the laser pickup unit should be replaced. The lens cleaning disc can be bought from most of the electronic sparepart selling shops at your town, and won't cost more.

Hello, welcome to Fixya!

Was this player playing previously? And how long have you been using this player? I suspect the lens of the player. Once the lens of the player becomes weak, it won't play discs any longer.

The first thing my mind goes to, is the lens. The lens id responsible for reading/loading data on discs. So if the lens is unable to read the disc, there is no way the player is going to play the disc.

To confirm if actually its a laser problem, insert an Audio CD into the player and see if will play. If it plays, then obviously, your laser (lens) is weak. But if it doesn't play Audio CD, then it might still be the laser (lens) or probably, a mechanism problem.

Get a lens cleaner, use it to clean the lens. If that doesn't solve the problem, get a screw driver, open the player's cover so that you can gain access to the lens, use a cotton board to clean the surface of the lens. This should clean dust or dirt that might be on the lens.

If non of the above solves the problem, then know that you need to replace the laser to a brand new one.

To replace the lens, remove the bad laser, use it as a sample to get exactly the same type and do the replacement. Note that replacing a laser (lens) needs a professional touch, so if you cannot replace the laser, get it to a repairman to fix it for you.

Once this us done, your player will play all DVD discs again.

Good luck.

We have a PD-800 dvd player. & it keeps saying "wrong disc". help

unplug for 2 minutes, then plug back in. This works,If you haven't done this already, try a different disc, preferably one it has played successfully before. If another disc works, then take a look at the working side of the disc that doesn't work and check for scratches or smudges. Or, if it's a recordable disc, it may just be a brand that your player can't handle. Every now and then, I even get a factory DVD that my player can't handle.

If this is happening with any disc, even ones it has played successfully, then we'll hope for dust on the laser lens. Get a lens cleaning disc and try it. If that doesn't work, you may have to replace the player.

It's most likely dirty, though it could be failing. The lasers have an average life span of 3 years, under normal use.

Several companies make CD/DVD laser lens cleaners. You want the kind with optical quality brushes on the bottom side. You simply put it in, let is spin up and play, then take it out. It may not play the first couple times you put it in, but it will be cleaning the lens and pickups.

If that doesn't do it, I'd start looking at sales for a new player.
