Question about Brother FAX-8360P Plain Paper Laser

Transmitted pages are too dark, practically unreadable :

Hi :

Recipients of outgoing faxes regularly complain that pages recd by them are too dark. Also, there is a vertical dark line in each page. (When I copy a page, I see the same vertical line. My suspicion is that it is coming from a toggle switch near the scanner bar)

Is there any way to reduce improve the quality of transmission ? Curiously, pages that are originally fairly light transmit better.

The manual is silent on this type of problem . Can any one help, please.

Thx

GH

Lift the control panel up (the one with all the buttons) and you can see the surface of the scanner, a thin piece of glass going across the machine. carefully clean that and it may cure your problem (look for tippex, ink stains etc)

I suspect your scanner unit is going bad or it is extremely dirty.

Making a copy gets same result as when you send.

It'll be your outgoing fax resolution settings. Should be in your software somewhere. Move all settings, ie contrast, darkness etc to approx 50% .

I would have thought that there would also be a practice fax option, perhaps amongst the set up procedures.

Faxes coming in print fine but outgoing faxes people are saying are coming out blank on their end

If outgoing faxes are turning up blank on the recipients end, you may be putting the paper to be faxed in backwards. Outgoing faxes should be sent face-down. If you are sending properly, either your scanner is failing (test it by copying a document) or the recipient is having fax issues on their end.

Black streaks on prints

Where the original page that you wish scanned/faxed there will be a device called a "scan part". This device "reads" the paper to be faxed/scanned as it passes. It usually is found very near where the paper to be faxed goes in.
If there is a spec of debris on this part it will cause a fine line straight down the document. If its dirty, the document will be too! Just give it a good cleaning and you should be fine.

The last time I got a fax, only the first four pages were OK....the rest were so dark, they were unreadable

Try making 10 copies of something.

The drum cleaning blade in your fax machine may be worn out.

No confirmation and can't fax any outgoing

There is a fax stuck in memory. Try unplufgging the machine for 30 secs.

Plug a regular into the wall jack to verify that you have a dial tone.

Outgoing faxes

Not good! It sounds like you have a bad scanner assembly. Make a copy of something and you probably will see the same result.

Copies and outgoing fax quality

your machine most likely has toner spills in it.
if you send faxes face side down follow these instructions ;
1- take out toner
2- look for thin glass strip on bottom inside the machine
3-wipe clean

if you make copies side up then do the same except look for glass strip on the upper side of machine

Document feeder jam?

So when you copy via docfeeder, everything comes out fine?

Look around where the paper exits the docfeeder...there should be some kind of black plastic flapping piece...the paper pushes it up as it goes through the machine.  If this is stuck up, the docfeeder might think that the paper is stuck inside the feeder.
