Outdoor pictures give white display on screen

Go to the menus and reset to default or factory settings. Make sure that the white setting in the picture adjustments in the menus are set to zero or you may have to adjust + or - to get the normal effect again.
Test the camera by taking pictures and saving to a sd card. Then put the card in a card reader/writer which is connected to the computer. Copy the pictures or files to the computer and view them to see if they are in good shape or if there is some problem with exposure or the way it looks.
If the computer pictures show that they are good, and they are not showing good on the camera LCD, then the LCD has a problem, and is possibly either cracked or has some other display problem.
These LCD screens are not that hard to change if you are good at working with small items and screws. If you do this, make sure you have a way to remember where you got each screw, as they can vary in size and kind.

Black Screen

But does it take usefull pictures? I mean, after you take the picture, can you download it onto the computer?

  • If yes, you probably deactivated the back LCD by mistake. Look for a "display" button (or similar) and push it. It will cycle through all of the available display modes.

  • If not, it's probably a software error. Take the camera to a local electronist or Canon dealer for repairs.

Vertical stripes on digital camera lcd

The fact that it takes the pictures ok confirms that it's not the ccd which has failed.

If the menus on the lcd screen are also distorted then it confirms that the lcd screen itself is faulty and this is replaceable. If the menus display just fine, then it's the internal circuit board which has a problem and replacing that is not normally viable.

Either way, the Samsung s860 is a budget model available for as little as £60 new, so even the most minor repair will cost more than replacing the camera: unless it's still under warranty (one year from purchase date) it's definitely uneconomic to repair. Samsung themselves wouldn't normally bother; a warranty claim usually means they chuck your camera away and send you a replacement.

If you're in the UK click here for details of how to proceed with Samsung.

I hope that I've helped, if so please remember to rate my answer.

Important photos are stuck in the internal memory of my camera.

Select the Display mode with the top dial. Press the Set button to bring up the menus. Press the Rev key to scroll down through the menus. On the second page of menus, select the Copy menu. Then press the Lightning Bolt key to scroll right. Select the top of the 2 menu items. This will copy the internal pics to the memory card, assuming you have a memory card inserted.

Try to see If you can see a photo in Playback mode from your memory card (Transfer a good photo to the card first) Do all the menus display correctly? If so it would seem the camera sensor (ccd) is bad. Canon had a recall on these models with bad sensors and will repair them free of charge.

I have a Canon Rebel XT/EOS 350D. For some reason when I try to view the AF, ISO or WB menus they are not displaying. Can you help?

You need to set your Mode Dial to one of the modes in the creative zone (i.e. one of the modes: P, Tv, Av, M or A-DEP) in order to access the AF, ISO and WB menus. Those menus are not displayed when the Mode Dial is set to one of the Basic Zone modes.
Hope this helps /Chris
