Is the filter in place and in good condition. To find the filter just unhook the top and lift it off.

Genie shop vac 6 gallon 2.0 is blowing air out of the hose and not sucking

Lots of shop vacs have an exhaust.....which the hose can be hooked up to for blowing stuff.... sounds like you might have the hose plugged into the exhaust.... look for another hole on the side of the bucket part. .... plug the hose in there.

I just had the same problem, the vac wouldn't suck in. Turned out to be because the filter was WET. It works great when I take the filter off before sucking up water or liquids! Not sure if this applies in your case, but definitely something to keep in mind. : )

Blowing out instead of sucking in.

There should be a blow side and a vacuum side. You have the hose on the wrong side. If there are not two different holes, then there is a switch somewhere.

Have a Sears shop vac, mod 113.172. The motor doesn't take in

If the motor turns, you should have suction. Put the hose on the exhaust side of the motor if there is a connection, and try to blow it out. If you can't, try using a garden hose or toilet snake to clear the hose. IF the hose is clear, and the problem continues, check the float in the cage below the motor. It should be down at the bottom of the cage. Also, if you haven't been using a bag or foam cover for the cage, it is possible for leaves to clog the motor.
