Technika AEDVDRHDDS7 DVD recorder wont rec...

I think this machine is also known as Yamada 8400x. I have backed up some videos to DVD using the machine via the composite input from a video player. I had one that said the video was not transferable (a message came up on the tv screen) now when I play a video to be transfered to dvd the record mode on the dvd recorder will not work. If I operate the REC/DUB button on the dvd recorder the rec light comes on but when I start the tape the REC/DUB light goes out and recording stops. This happens on both record to DVD and to HDD. What is the problem and how do I fix it please.
