Inverter for monitor?

Fix-4U, Can you give some guidance to a handyman? In regards to your reply beolw, I have the same problem with my monitor, is it possible for a handyman to purchase and replace the inverter or do I need to take the monitor to a professional? Or is it more cost effective to purchase a new monitor? Thanks, Homegjl@yahoo.com posted on Sep 25, 2008

On my Acer AL1916W monitor the screen comes on for a few seconds then goes off but the power light is still green.

Hi.

That is often an inverter failure. Try turning off the room light, and point a flashlight sticking to the dark screen. If you can see a very faint picture, then the inverter has failed.
Before replacing the inverter, the PSU must also be tested. If the PSU does not supply power to inverter, then the PSU and not the inverter is the part to be tested.

If the screen is not dark, but there is backlight and no picture, then the problem is not the inverter. In that case check the source and the connection cable. If the cable is OK, then it is usually the main controller board inside the monitor. Once again the part must be tested.

Regards.

Ginko.

I am not sure how far you will want to do DIY repair works.
Most common failurs are due to bad caps, blown fuse or transistors in the power supply/inverter circuits.

Monitor is not working anymore what do i do?(black screen

Possible that the HV inverter or the CFL tubes are going bad / defective. I suggest to bring the unit to an authorized (BenQ) service center for proper check-up / test & fix the problem. regards

Monitor works for a fraction of a second

See article written by sillybit (me) for the Westinghouse 19v5. My 20v5 had bad caps in the power supply - it did the exact same thing as yours. $8 worth of parts from radioshack and an hour or two is all mine needed.

I fixed mine. Had to replace one bulging capacitor in the power supply. Yours may need more or less but it was pretty easy if you do any electronics. The specifics can be found under some of the other problem posts, especially for one of the 19" sceptres.

Help in identifying this transistor for my VX924

Are they black with 3 SMD pads? They should have a tiny tiny number on the top corresponding to a SMD code that will tell you what they are (example: D9A means 5.5V zener diode).

You should be able to just get a new inverter or repurpose an inverter out of something else to get it working again. An inverter that powers any other CCFL bulb should work fine.

How to aply?

When a lcd monitor has a black screen the inverter is usall bad. Some have a individual inverter and others have a combination Inverter power supply. Capacitors are usally the first thing to check as well as fuses. Usally labeled starting with a F.
