Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

1 Answer

PS3 not showing up anywhere.

I frequently switch my PS3 back and forth from HDMI to regular video output because I play it on 2 different TVs, one HDMI capable and one not. Today I switched the settings to regular video output and lost my PS3 altogether. It will not appear anywhere now, not on HDMI settings -or-regular video settings and I cannot figure out why. I tried rebooting it and everything else I can think of but still, no dice. Can someone please help me with this issue?

I took my ps3 over to a friends played on it for a little while and when i took the system home and hooked it up nothing appeared on the screen. So i called my friend and had him bring his cables just to see if that was the problem but still nothing showed up on the screen. I've tried rebooting time and again and replugging in cords but nothing.

Cant get output ps3 on hdmi cable

  • Make sure the system is off.
  • Hold down the Power Button for 5-6 seconds - until you hear the second beep.
This resets the video settings to defaults (standard video output).
Power up the PS3 again and it should auto-detect the hdmi at this point.

If that does not work use the original audio/video cable that came with the system, power it on, then adjust the video settings and try the hdmi cable again.

PS3 Has no Video - Simple fix!

When you attach your Play Station 3 to an HD TV through an HDMI port, the Play Station 3 will ask you if you wish to switch to HD Mode.

However, if you decide to move it to another TV that is not HD compatible, you will get no picture because the Play Station 3 is “stuck” in HD (HDMI) mode.

Follow these steps to resolve your problem:

    1. Turn off the PS3 so it only shows a red light. You can hold the power button on the front until it goes into standby. To be sure, flick the power switch on the back of the Play Station 3 off and then back on.

    2. Make sure your Play Station 3 is connected to your regular TV (not HDTV) with the standard video cables.

    3. Press and hold the power button until the screen "flickers" and then immediately release. This should reset the video settings.

    4. Wait a few seconds, and the Play Station 3 (PS3) logo should appear.

If this does not resolve the problem, follow these steps:

    3. Press and hold the power button on the front until the Play Station 3 beeps and then turns off again. This should reset the video for you and you can turn it back on after this.

That’s it! You can play your Play Station 3 again!

Blue no signal screen in the middle of playing a game - ps3 hdmi

Have your tried a different plug HDMI plug on your TV? Maybe bring your PS3 to a friend who has HDMI and try it on his TV. What about a diffferent HDMI cable?

Could also be your HDMI on your PS#, but try these other simple tasks first.

    Good Luck

try connecting A/V rca cable first. go to ur diplay settings and then to video output settings in it select av multi. don't use HDMI settings let it automatically ask u when u plug in hdmi cable. Then switch to HDMI cable. I had a problem like this before with a ps3 that i had bought used. hdmi was set up and it took forever to set it up with rca cords. took many times power on and offs and unplugging video cords for it to reset. . not sure. Now when u plug in your hdmi on any tv it should automatically set up. and you have settings for a/v as backup. the other thing is it could be the just the port or cable.

Av connections not giving signal to tv

you have to manually change the output in the settings menu back to ANALOG Using an HDMI TV or monitor 1st, when you select RCA, or AV output and restart, it will work, but when you switch back, you have to change it (back to HDMI output) on the analog monitor, or use analog TV inputs, then reboot PS3 and connect HDMI.
I do not know why Sony did not make this switch automatic and self scanning on boot, but alas I have had the same issue, so I know this is your problem, not the AV cables.

Please give a fixya rating if you find this solves your problem, Thanks for the question

    Playing on a regular TV.

Ensure you have returned the PS3 video output system setting to 480i vs the 720/1080 setting. Regular TV will give you a black screen at the higher resolutions.
