Question about Panasonic PT-53WX53 53" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

PT47WX49E wavy lines

I've owned this TV since new.
Now when I turn it on I get light wavy lines along the top 1/4 of the screen for about 5-10 minutes then all is clear and the picture looks fine.

Any recommendations for the fix of this problem.

Thanks ahead for any suggestions.

Thank you for the reply Bill.

Is there a schematic of all the CAPs you recommending to replace?

Each component on the board, cap, diode, transistor, etc has a location number prefixed by an identifier, thus c2451 is "c" a cap located at 2451, d2050 would be a diode at 2050 and if you look at the board closely you'll see these loaction numbers are grouped by their circuit. All of the 7xxx will be with a lined area no larger than the circuit they support. A schematic, unless you're a wiz at reading them, won't do you much good because they are drawn by circuit not postion.
Get a good pair of reading glasses and a good flashlight.
Hope this helps!

That unit has a history of bad caps throughout the convergence and other circuits. Personally I believe it was an error in the design.... Check and/or replace the following::: C2451, C3007, C7022, C4613, C2507, C7060 all 100uf/16v and C7127, C7128, C7103, C7154, C7136, C3010, C3008, C3002 all 47uf/16v... You can use a higher voltage rated caps such as 35v or 50v for greater reliability.

The STKs are common and if you have an experienced electronics tech around they can replace them for much less money but the tech must have advanced soldering and IC exchange experience.

The STK ics, two of them, can be purchased on line for around $20 to $40 each.

Partstore has two models available - one for around $40 and another for around $55.

The part number is STK392-110 and if you google you can find them for as little as $6/each but I don't recommend the cheap ones as they are not reliable.

It takes a good tech around 3 or 3 hours to take the old ones out and solder in the new ones. Also, it is likely one or two resistors are burnt and will need replacing as well.

57" Toshiba with wavy green/red lines "good overall picture"

Appears to be a convergence problem, the chips are located on large aluminum heat sinks. Check near the 2 or 3, STK IC's for + and - voltage usually 20 to 25vdc. If 1 or both are missing, check microfuses. They should both be close to equal in voltage reading, if not, turn set off after it has been on for 10 minutes, feel the heat sinks at each IC,if one is hotter than the other, replace both IC's or all 3 if it has them. Now check the small low ohmage resisters in and around the STK IC's and you will most likely find a few burnt or discolored and have changed in value, replace these or the new chips installed will self destruct.
