1. if your computer is locked up.. try to force a shutdown by pressing the power botton on your tower and holding the bottom pressed until the computer powers down. wait 15 seconds then try to restart again.

if your monitor is the one that seems to be acting funny... try with another monitor or logging into your computer remotely.. if that works, change your monitor, if it doesnt you need to troubleshoot your problem as follows:

2. you may have a video card driver problem: try the following:
last known good configuration

to restart your computer in safe mode by following this;
vista
xp

if you can go into boot into safe mode you do have a video card problem and most likely related with the driver... go to your video card manufacturer and lookf for an updated driver.

3. if you can't boot into safemode.. or not boot at at all you may have a hardware problem and based on the original description of your problem you video card is the one to blame. replace and retest

post your findings, more details of what happened after you restart or more details of your problem

MY 20INCh SOYO MONITOR TURNS ON BUT LINES OF color appear

First check the connections, by upplugind the cord connecting it to your PC(on both ends if able). Then if still having issues try the monitor on another computer if you can. If the issue is only when connected to your computer then it is an issue with your video card and not the monitor. if the issue stays with the monitor no matter what computer you plug it into then the problem is with the monitor itself. If the cable that connects it can come off the monitor you can try a new cable but likely the monitor will need to be replaced at that point.

E machines flat computer screen began blinking and having colored lines going through it after turning black. By odd mishap I realized when I pressed on the screen it stopped doing that. That has been...

By the way, is it an LCD screen? I guess so. LCDs have small IC's either on the lower portion or in the left side of the screen. When these become loose, the tendency is to have vertical or horizontal lines on the screen. Hot air blower might solve the problem. But most will not. Better claim warranty or replace the unit.

Turned computer on one day last week and the Dell E171 flat panel monitor showed nothing but vertical lines. The mouse showed as a strange assortment of colors in a small square and the screen adjustment...

Try another monitor, then change the graphics settings to lowest possible, then reboot the PC, and see if your screen works again, if it does, check the documentation for your monitor and make sure you do NOT exceed the maximum color depth / resolution for your monitor, also, make sure not to exceed the refresh rate.

if this does not fix your monitor issue, check the cables for missing pins, freyed wireing / broken insulation.

Again, if this doesn't fix your problem, try the monitor on another PC, and if still a no-go, you may have a damaged inverter board in your monitor, or other componant / wire based issue.

If another monitor doesn't work on your computer, try swapping the graphics card out, it could very well be a dieing graphics card.

Monitor screen with pink line

While I've never seen the stripe be pink, it's not impossible for it to appear that color. Your monitor is bad, and isn't easily or cheaply fixed.

Blank screen or vertical colored lines on monitor

sounds like a graphics card failing

is it on board graphics ?

if so try a graphics card in there see if that helps it

also if you could borrow a monitor and see if that helps

its either one or the other and is a process of elimination
