This is not correct. This indicates that there is a problem with the satellite receiver. There should always be a number assigned to the GPS S/W version. If it returns a value of 0.0 this is a problem. If your unit is new, take it back to the store or call Garmin.

All of a sudden, my Garmin SP 7200 lost all satellite reception. All the signal bars are blank. Garmin says $190 to repair. Really like this unit but considering another unit. Is the GPS receiver...

Hello,

Try running and installing or reinstalling the latest update using the Garmin WebUpdater.
download the latest version of WebUpdater software
Usually this will resolve most issues.
Failing that, the GPS receiver is replaceable as per Garmin's $190 to repair.

Updated unit and still acquiring satelites is showing, what can i do?

If your unit is still acquiring satellite, then it means the signal strength is weak, try to get it outside where it can be facing the sky directly so it will be able to acquire satellite. Once you just update your gps receiver, it seems like it is brand new and when it wants to first acquire satellite, it might take longer to do so. But if it has access to the sky directly, it should take about 3 to 5 minutes to acquire.
If your unit is indoor, it may not acquire satellite, even if it is close to the window, it will not, but if it is outside, then it will acquire faster.
Check if you have any protective coating on your windshield or electronic devices which interfere with the unit from receiving signal from the satellite. Try to see if your gps receiver can use an antenna, then connect one to it and your gps will acquire satellite.
Try to reset your gps first before trying any other solution for the unit.

GPS can not locate satellites.

Where did you try this? GPS signals are "line of sight" only and will be blocked by even thin metallic coatings. Some high-end european cars have window coatings that block GPS signals.

If the unit is new, it may take it a long time to get its first fix, It trys to look for the satellites it thinks it should see at whatever location it last was and at whatever time it thinks it is. After it first locks on to a satellite, it will eventually download new ephemeris data and correct itself, but this may take a while.

make sure you are trying this outside where the GPS has a clear view of the sky. You can go to the system settings page and set your location and time and that will help it find satellites quicker than it would if it thinks it is somewhere else at some other time.

If you still can't get satellites, you may have a bad internal antenna or receiver.

If you have already tried what I suggest, contact Garmin for their free technical support.

http://www.garmin.com and push the support button near the top of the page. There is both phone and email support.

GPS 60 unit shows "Searching the Sky" status message all the time

The "New Location" fix above brought my GPS 60 back to full operation. I did reload the GPS software from Garmin but the recovery depended on well charged batteries and as above: turn the unit on
press MENU button
scroll to "New Location"
wait 10 minutes for the GPS to recover.

Garmin 60CSx - Cant find satellites

Try a re-load of the chipset driver. It is available from the Garmin website. I find that it occasionally becomes corrupt.
You can check by entering the "Main Menu" then "Setup" then "System" then press Menu and choose "Software Version".
If the "GPS SW Version" is 0.00 then a reload of the chipset driver will correct the problem.

Cheers.

Trouble Acquiring Satellites

This can be easily fixed....
I had the same problem, I returned first piece and exchanged for the second. Had the same problem with second and took back to Circuit city. The GPS guys took out 3rd one for me and had same problem. Then the manager came who has been using these for couple of years and tried to set the home location 3 times and it worked 3rd time. He did the same for the second returned piece and it also worked. He says since these pieces are programmed for Kansas we need to give 3-4 tried before the piece first 'locates' satellite and then acquires satellite. After the the piece just turned out to be awesome.
