Thanks for this valuable information. What will be the best way to
proceed for finding out whether it is the backlight lamp, its
associated power supply or the main power supply. Thanks

Monitor went to sleep as normal but when I moved mouse to awaken it, it flashed only briefly and stayed dark. The LED went to green as if it had awakened.

Possibly either the backlight lamp or its associated power supply has failed. Power buttons (mostly LEDs) have constant availability of low voltage (for some other circuits too) otherwise they wouldn't 'wake up' on command from a computer as some do.
The blackout could also be due to a failed main power supply so the incoming video is no longer being processed.

Depending on how that unit is built, you may be able to see some light leakage from the backlight through the rear of the monitor or it may be necessary to remove the back panel to gain visible access..
If you can, then you still don't know whether the lamp or its power supply is at fault.
If access to the circuit boards is possible, inspect them carefully for any signs of hotspots that can be revealed by discolored board areas or components that have failed and affected their appearance; for example; capacitors (cylindrical packages anywhere from 1/4" diameter to close to 2"), any black components with a cylindrical or rectangular case that appear to be split or show signs of having overheated; these will be semiconductors of various function and should never show any signs of heat damage.
Capacitors will often show a failed state by having a bulging or burst top, or any crystalline deposits around their base on the board.

If you do see some evidence of failures, replacing only the visibly damaged parts may not help as components are often victims, a symptom rather than the source of failure so without having some measure of knowledge and at least a multimeter, your chances of success are limited.
It may be time to consider replacing the monitor since the cost of labor and potential problem procuring parts may make the repair too expensive to complete.

Its worth fixing...
Its just an issue with the board.
If it happens to be the LCD panel, rather not fix it since its gonna cost u a fortune.

BenQ fp737 monitor

Disconnect the signal cable from CPU and power on.You should get a BenQ Blue screen.
If no Display,Problem is definitely monitor related ie monitor has a hardware defect most probably the power/invertor board has a few blown components.
If you are technically able, you can dismantle monitor and check components on the Invertor board which you may find on my other posts.
Please reply if you need more help. Please rate this solution.
Thanks.

Screen black

Bill, It could be your LCD backlight giving you problems. With the computer on and the monitor power LED green shine a flashlight in the lower left hand corner of your screen. Look for the ?Start? button, if your backlight is not working you?ll see a faint ?start? button if you look closely. Depending on the monitor this is usually and economically repairable problem.
