For Skype voice conversations you should get a USB headset. Not a microphone. The quality of your conversations will be superior, you won't have to hold a mic so your hands are free to type and most importantly you will eliminate the possiblity of feedback (which could happen if your microphone gets too close to your PC's speakers). You can get an inexpensive Logitech one for around $20-$30.

Unfortunately your computer does not have a built in microphone. You can, however, buy an external microphone (around $10) and connect it to the microphone input socket (next to the audio output socket). Once you do this, you should be able to voice chat on Skype

Complete specifications for your machine is available at:

Good luck :)

Sony vaio vgn-NR120E has no mic specially when u r on skype i can hear the caller but my voice is not heard by him...tell me the solutionWhat's your problem?

You're on a laptop and it's talking about a sound card?

If you can hear audio or the voice from the caller then you don't need a sound card.

Yes you can purchase an external mic and it just plugs into the mic port on your system. I think that might be why the caller can't hear you. All computers do not come with a built in microphone. And if you are skyping and using a web cam, all web cams don't have a built in microphone.

Im trying to use skype but nobody can hear me and i dont know what i need to do

Make a call to echo

Echo will ask for you to speak and then your words will be echoed back. If you don't hear your voice you need to make sure Skype is using the right microphone input. If you are using a desktop PC with a USB camera, you may want to make sure you have the input settings set to the camera as they default to the on-board sound card.

Likewise, if you have some sort of device that could have diverted the mic input away from the microphone you need to check that too.

So from Skype:
  • Go to Tools menu
  • Choose Options
  • Choose Audio Settings
  • Make sure the Microphone is on the right device

Im using acer aspire 4732Z. When i use skype the other person cannot hear my voice? What might be the problem? do i need a separate microphone?

Good day,

I will first want to ask that do your laptop have a built in microphone like that use for speech recognition? If yes, has your skype account been configured to use this microphone? if no, configure that in the settings tab of your skype account.
If your laptop do not have an in built microphone then get a head phone that has a microphone attached to it and configure it in your skype account.

Internal Connection of Built In Microphones on the

go to control panel- sound and audio devices- click the voice tab- click on the "test hardware button"
follow the prompts. if it tests ok there and still doesnt work in something like skype, then you'll need to go through the settings OR setup wizard in skype in this example and choose the internal mic instead of the external which isn't there.
