Face does not come down and remote won't work

posted by dwileyjr on Sep 20, 2006

Suddenly, the face stopped coming down after pressing the top-left button (when face is closed). Even though, when I started up my car, it would automatically come down... just not come down by pressing the button. The first time it happened, I used the open/close button on the remote and it came down. The second time it happened, my remote did not work. In fact, none of the buttons on the remote worked, so I was stuck listening to the same station and the same volume. I ended up removing the unit to see if any connections had come loose. After making sure all connections were secure, I hooked it back up. Now, the unit will not even power on, much less flip down the face. All connections are secure and it is hooked up properly... I have no idea what could be going wrong or how to fix it, PLEASE HELP ASAP!!!

EXTREMELY common problem for these units.

The faceplate ribbon cable has gone bad and needs to be replaced.
