Are you using windows?
Please check it on your Device manager on your computer. Just click on start/control panel/system/hardware/device manager. Please check for Universal Serial Bus controllers on the drop down list make sure it says "USB printing support".

Or you can unplug/replug the cable then you will check if the printer icon will appear on your printers and faxes folder .

How to install a printer without a software disk

Installing a printer without a software disk is easier than you think!

Most people don't know that software and drivers for printer installation are avaialble free of charge on the internet. So what do you do if you lost your disk and need to install a printer? The first step is to find the brand name and model number of your printer which should be located on the front near the keypad area and write it down on a piece of paper.

After writing down the make and model name of your printer, go to your computer and open your internet browser. Find the search box on your home page and type in the brand name and model number to locate the manufacturers website.

If your printer was made by Hewlitt Packard of "HP", go to their website which is located at http://www.hp.com.

If you bought a printer made by Lexmark, go to their website located at http://www.lexmark.com. For printers made by Brother, you can find their website at http://www.brother.com.

Once you find the website, look for the area that says "customer support" or "download drivers & software" and click on it the link to open it. Search for your drivers and/or software by entering the model information from your printer and again press enter. Find the file for your operating system (Windows Xp, Vista ect.,) and click on the link to download it to your computer. If you see a pop up window that asks if you want to "save" or "open" the file, I suggest choosing the "open" option.

If you choose to "save" your file, it will be downloaded as a program and saved to your computer for installation later. If you use this option, you will be asked where you want to save your file on your computer. I suggest that you choose a location that is easy to remember so you don't waste time locating it later. A good place to save your file would be your desktop or your documents area on your computer. After choosing the location to save your file press the enter key or click on the "ok" button on your screen to begin your download.

If you choose to "open" your file, it will be downloaded without saving a copy of the program to your computer. When you open a download instead of saving it to your comptuer, the file starts the process immediately.

After your file has finished downloading, follow the prompts to install the software to your computer. The program will choose the default settings which are usually optimal for your operating system. When the program has finished installing, you will see the ICON on your desktop which means your ready to connect your printer.

It is important to install the software for your printer before you connect it to your computer and turn it on. If the software is installed before you connect the printer, your computer will be able to recognize it the moment you turn it on.

If you have installed your software and can see the program on your desktop, then its time to connect your printer cable to your computer. Connect your cable and then turn on your printer and watch the lower right side of your computer screen near the clock area to make sure it is recognized correctly. You should see a pop up message about your printer or an icon appear that verifies you are on the right track in the correct order for your installation.

Once it is connected, trying printing a document to test your settings and then your done! If you run into trouble, go back to the manufactures website for troubleshooting assistance.

How to install printer

First thing to do is install your drivers and/or software for your printer on your computer. Do not connect the printer to the computer until you are finished loading these files.

If its a brand new printer, it should have came with a disk to install the software. Find the disk and put it in your CDROM on your computer. The computer usually recognizes the CD automatically and the installation program will appear on your screen and give instructions to follow. If your computer does not auto recognize the CD and start the install then you need to manually locate the program to start it yourself. To locate the installation file on the CD double click "my computer" from your desktop and find the drive that represents it. Your CDROM should be either "D" or any letters in sequence beyond that point. The name of the install program should show up under the drive letter that represents the CDROM. When you locate it, double click on it and find the application for installation. Double click on the install file and then just follow the prompts to complete it. After the installation of the software is complete, connect your printer to your computer and turn it on. Your computer will automatically recognize the printer and tell you that your device is connected and ready to use.

Happy Printing!

My printer has somehow disconnected from my computer...how can I reinstall it?

Hello

Plug in your printer to your computer whether it uses parallel, serial or usb port

Find the driver from the provided cdrom supplied by your printer manufacturer, if it's not found, you can locate on from the manufacturer's website

Turn on your printer, and if you use windows xp, it will pop-up a new add hardware wizard

First, you can try to have windows configure your printer manually, if not found, locate the driver for your printer or wherever you save the driver on.

Lexmark X2500 wont read on the computer (2008 HP Vista).

please try reinstalling the drivers. unplug the printer from the pc, reinstall drivers. restart pc before you plug the printer back in to the pc. after restart, plug printer back in. should work. do you have the install disc for the printer? If you do, and the first fix did not work, plaug the printer into the pc. Put the install disc into disc drive. if the autoplay is running it should ask you if you want to read the files on the disc, just close this window. Then go to START-RUN(type in) DEVMGMT.MSC and find the printer option. expan and right click on the little printer and choose "UPDATE DRIVER" it will then give an option to choose from updating from a specific location or install from a specific location. choose FROM A SPECIFIC LOCATION. another window will pop up with the choice to search from removable media ie floppy, cd etc, etc. choose that option if it hasnt already. It shouls all be automatic from her on out. Good luck.
