I just turned on my camera and all my pictures and videos have been deleted and it reads "no file." How can I retrieve them and make sure this never happen again?

I'm not sure why this hapend (maybe someone do this!?) but to recover yorfiles: there is a open source software named "test disk" you can download it  from www.cgsecurity.org and use photorec to recover your files (you must have a card reader). 
I hope this helps...
