Question about Sony Grand WEGA KDF-60XS955 60" Rear Projection HDTV

Blue blob on your Sony LCD Projection TV

I read here on FixYa that you had a problem with your Sony LCD projection with a blue blob in the bottom right corner. I see you discovered the problem was an optical block and that a Sony technician came to fix it for free. I have the same TV and I am having the same problem. I called Sony and they had me turn it off, unplug and plug it back in. This did not solve the problem (which I knew it wouldn't) so they gave me a reference number and a technician is suposed to contact me in 2 business days. I anticipate having to pay at least a service charge for someone to come to my house. Was it by chance that you got this fixed for free? I would like to get mine fixed free too if possible.

I thank you in advance for reading and responding to my question.

Sony is warrantied this through Dec. 2008 and offering a replacement TV for anywhere's from $800 - $850 for their KDL-52W4100 or a free optic block replacement by authorized Sony repair. Check their website under news flashes. That reference number is used for this purpose.

Thats caused by a bad optical block. The cost of that repair will almost always be greater than replacing the TV.Thats a very common issue with alot of Sony DLP models which suffered that optical block issue with the blobs of color usually blue or green

Left half of picture has a green ghost like shade

The sounds like the light engine is bad. Sony is notorious for blobs because of the three LCD chip inside consisting of a red, green, and blue chip. The light from the lamp is reflected and then combined back together to form a brilliant picture. Unfortunately one of the chips is bad, or has melted due to extreme heat from the lamps. This can cause the color blobs on the screen. A lot of people experience blue or green blobs in the center or on the sides of their sets.

With all due respect, you're asking the wrong people. Only Sony can tell you if you're too late but my experience has been that they're normally pretty fair with considering out of warranty goodwill repairs.
Ask Sony and if they can't help then come back and ask about your problem on FixYa.
