Hope you are able to help. My son's Xbox keeps displaying IP Address failure. He has played on it before OK. Now cannot get past this failure point. Have looked on the net, sounds complicated. Can anyone give me simple instructions. The xbox is connected to a wired router that our Laptop is connected to and then to a modem (think I've got that right).
Any help greatly appreciated, as my Son is doing my head in to get this reconnected.

1) Select the following service mode COPIER>TEST>NETWORK>PING, and select PING. 2) Enter the IP addressof your PC using the numeric keys on the control panel, and press OK. 3) Press the start key. - OK is displayed if Ping succeeds, but NG is displayed if it ends in failure.
Perform this procedure only when connecting the machine to networks. If the machine fails to be connected to networks, any of the following causes is probable. a. Connection failure between networks and the machine b. TCP/IP setting failure of the machine c. User network failure d. Main controller PCB failure The detailed check methods are as follows.
Checking with Loopback Address you can check whether TCP/IP settings of the machine are appropriate by executing Ping with this address. 1) Enter the loopback address (127.0.0.1) in PING. - If NG is displayed, check TCP/IP settings of the machine again, and re-execute Ping. - If OK is displayed, perform the next check. Checking with Local Host Address The local host address is the IP address of the machine. Since the local host address returns in response to the network controller by executing Ping with the address, you can check whether the network controller (main controller PCB) is in a normal condition. 1) Enter the IP address of the machine in PING. If NG is displayed, take the following actions, and re-execute Ping. - IP address error of the machine: Check to see again if the IP address settings of the machine are appropriate. Ask the system administrator whether the allocated IP address is valid. - Failure in the main controller PCB: Replace the main controller PCB If OK is displayed, a cause may be user's network environment. Inform the system administrator of the current situation, and ask for measures.
A router shares your internet connection with local computers and devices on your local area network. Microsoft's xbox live requires a connection to your IP address on a certain port. This will be a problem when using 2 xboxes so what you would need to do is contact your Internet Service Provider, explain that you are using a router and require an additional Static IP Address.
Once they provide you the details for this, you can manually set up one of the xboxes with the static details your isp has given you.
This should stop the 2 xbox conflicting over connecting to the internet, as they will be running on seperate ip addresses.
OK I think the easiest way to connect the xbox to the linksys, is if you configure your XBOX to have a static IP address, because the xbox will not have to pick an IP address every time you connect to the internet using the Linksys router and will not have conflicts with other PCs on your house, if you have any. What the linksys does is to convert your Public IP addres into a Private IP address, so example if your ISP gave you an IP address of: 22.214.171.124 that is your IP address for you, then the Linksys converts that number (NAT) into a private IP address so it can be share with many computer inside your house using a single Public IP address. The Linksys always transform it into 192.168.1.?=any number between 1-256 thats the defaults IP address from the manufacturer but you can change it if you want. Ok enough info about NAT or IP jeje.
Where going to use the default IP addres for an easier setup.
First: On your XBOX 360 dashboard go to SYSTEM, then Network Settings, then Edit Settings, then choose the option manual, here put the IP address= 192.168.1.33 (if 33 doesn't work use another numer like 20 or 45 just pick a number between 2 and 250) ; Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0 ; Gateway = 192.168.1.1; DNS options put Automatic. And see if it connects. If it doesn't work just post it here, any problem that you have.
