Limit switch not rotating when garage door moving up

I have a Sears garage door opener, bought in 1999 For some reason when the door is moving up the limit switch is not rotating and moving to the top sensor. The gears realy don't look used too much but there is a definite gap. Should I just replace the lmit switch and both plastic gears?

Oops further inspection shows the top bearing plate is so worn that shaft was severely tilted causing a gap between the helical gear and the limit switch. Looks like I need to purchase the hole Gear Sprocket assembly.

Chamberlin garage door opens to top limit bounces back to return down about 6 inches and then returns to open limit. What adjustments are neccessary?

The limit switch of both the sides are not reached. The drive must be realigned to work till the door closes fully so as to touch the limit swittch to switch off.
Similarily the open door must go to the extreme point to cut off with the activation of the limit switch.

Belt drive sears opener, new, will only open halfway, why?

Depending on model there are 2 two controls for up/ down travel of the opener. This is known as the limit switch. When the opener runs a gear moves 1 switch at time and when the switch closes the motor shuts off. There are arrows next to each control which will tell you which way to turn knob to increase the travel.if already maxed out will will need to remove cover and look at the switches. You can remove the tiny gear clip, take off the gear and manually move it in to the position you need. good luck

Installed garage door opener and the door opens then closes on its on

The down limit switch could be set to low. Try moving the screw clockwise to raise the stop point.

Chamberlain Liftmaster bounces back up sometimes...

On the side of the motor unit you will find the 'down limit control'. Using a small screwdriver turn this control in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Some tweaking will most likely be necessary. You can remove the cover and watch the limit switch assembly and get a good idea how it works.

How do I reset my garage door opener. It is a Coromaster 2000 motor. The closing and opening setting are out and the motor only stops due to resistance.

The Coromaster 2000 does not operate off limit switches. It has a quarter-revolution optical pulse counter. To re-program the open and close limits do the following: Ensure that the door is open at least a couple of feet. Press the reset button once or twice Short out pushbutton and common and hold until close limit and then release. Door should stop at your new close limit. Wait 5 seconds. Short out pushbutton and common and door will open. Hold the short until open limit and then release. Limits should now be set.

My garage door opener moves about 8" then reverses direction before touching the limits

Remove the cover and take a look at the drive gear. It is white nylon and is just in front of the motor. It is most likely stripped. You can purchase a new one at Sears or any good door opener company. It comes with instructions.
