1983 ranger turn signal lights flash quickly on both sides. Hazard lights work. Steering wheel felt locked and heard a breaking sound that seemed to come from the steering column.

fast flashing usually means a bulb is burnt... have you checked them all ??? or did you wire in a trailer plug and did something wrong ???

Need to replace my ingition switch on my 1983 s-15 pickup, v6 2.8 L. I can't find where it's located on my truck. To replace it.

he ignition switch is mounted on top of the steering column about halfway between your feet and your knees when sitting in the vehicle. You will need to remove the panel beneath the steering column, and lower the column to gain access. Two components share the same mounting screw more or less. The bright light switch which has three wires will need to be removed first, then the ignition switch with many wires of bigger size.

Needto replace heater core in 99 ford taurus, need help

Instructions Things You'll Need:
  • Replacement heater core
  • Clean container
  • Wrench
  • Screwdriver
  • Steering wheel nut
    Removal
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait at least one minute for the air bag system to lose power. Make sure the front wheels are straight ahead and lock the steering column.

  2. Detach the air bag module by removing the bolts from underneath both sides of the steering wheel and the electrical connector. Remove the steering wheel bolt and press the wheel away from the steering column. Remove the lower steering column cover.

  3. Insert a 1/8-inch wire or pin punch in the shroud hole under the ignition switch while it's in the "Run" position. Press on the pin and pull on the ignition switch lock cylinder to remove it.

  4. Disassemble and remove the instrument panel from the Taurus' interior. This includes the radio and all panels, electrical connectors, harnesses and screws. You'll need an assistant to help you lift and remove the instrument panel.

  5. Drain the engine coolant from the cooling system, using a clean container for reuse. Remove the heater hoses, actuator and metal cover from the heater. Disengage the spring from the heater core cover and the lever.

  6. Depress the locking ramp and remove the lever from the secondary air temperature control (the lever is brittle, so don't bend it). Remove the primary air conditioning air temperature control door shaft from the pin.

  7. Remove the heater core cover and seal from the heater/air conditioning housing assembly. Remove the heater core from the heater/air conditioning housing by pressing on the core tubes and assembly.

  8. Installation
  9. Install the replacement heater core to the heater/air conditioning housing. Install the core cover, seal, lever, spring, metal cover, actuator and heater hoses.

  10. Replace and assemble the instrument panel with your assistant's help. Connect the steering wheel (use a new bolt to connect it to the column), air bag and negative battery cable.

  11. Refill the cooling system with either the old coolant or new. Start the Taurus' engine and let it reach normal operating temperature. Watch the climate control operation and check for any leaks.

I need to replace the rag joint at steering box of a 1976 Doge D100 truck. Can you give me any information on how to do it ?

first thing is to loosen the column mount at the fire wall inside where the column goes through the fire wall and also loosen the column support up next to the dash. so you can move the column up and down. at the rag joint remove the bolts that pass throught the leather dampner between the two pieces of metal one is clamped to the steering gear box shaft and the other is clamped to the steering column loosen the bolts that hold the pieces of the rag joint to the column and steering box. and remove each piece from the shafts. you may need a hammer depending on how rusty the are on the shafts. the steering gear box shaft is splined so when you install the new joint line up the splines so it will slip onto the shaft. a little WD40 sprayed on the shaft will help it slde on. then slide the column into the top part of the joint until it is seated. tighten the clamp nuts and torque to 40 ft Lbs each retighten the firewall clamp and the dash support and you are done.

ReplacingTurn Switch

1. You are going to need a steering wheel puller.
2. You remove the steering wheel center.

3. you remove the large steering column nut, then install steering wheel puller to remove the steering wheel. It is necessary to mark the shaft to the steering wheel so that it will go back in the same position.

Once the steering wheel is removed, you can see the turn signal switch. There is one center screw that holds the turn signal switch inside the steering wheel hub.

Once the screw is removed the signal can be lifted up over the steering wheel shaft.

Now leaving that, go underneather the dash area and remove the smallpanel around the steering wheel shaft. There you will find a large electrical connector with all the wires that are used in the steering column. This connector can either be fed up thru the column or by disconnecting all of the wires and feeding them up through the column.

this will remove the old switch. The new switch and its wiring harness must now be fed back down the steering column and then reconnected to the large electrical connector.

Now re-install the new switch, screw the turn signal stem back into the switch assembly and the re-install the steering wheel, according to the aligments marks you made, otherwise your steering wheel will be off centered. Tighten down steering wheel center nut, and other panels. Check operation of switch.
Factory manuel gives mechanics 1 hour to do this, but it cam take up to 4 hours.
