Shader model 3.0 can you please install

sorry, but shader model is basically something used by your graphics card (hardware) , meaning you'll need a new graphics card installed on your computer if you wish to play high end games. There is a way to bypass the use of a shader model by emulating a graphics card but depending on your pc speed and memory you may not reach the requirements of the game to play it.

Here is a link for the emulator that also comes with the instruction set on how to use it. http://crystalunicorn.wordpress.com/2008/08/30/3d-analyze-virtual-graphics-emulator/

Also to know exactly what your missing in a game you want to play; you can use this link to see what games you can play, and what needs more of something else.
http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/

It uses an activex which needs to be installed to check your pc; and don't worry its harmless to your system.

Hope this helps ;)

Whenever I play a game like World of Warcraft or Call of Duty my monitor will go to sleep and won't come back on I have to turn it off by holding the power button and reboot it this never happens when I am...

It may be that your graphics card isn't quite man enough for the job. You'll have to check out the system requirements for these programmes. It may mean the purchase of a new graphics card with a higher rating.

Graphics card for D 101 GGC intel mobo/2.66/p-4/ram 512

Good news, you can upgrade the graphics card with almost any current PCIe (PCI Express) video card. Once you install a new graphics card in your system, the ATI Radeon x200 will be disabled automatically, as per the manual.

The one caveat is that the board is not PCIe 2.0 compliant, so any video card that requires PCIe 2.0 compliance will not work. This is not an issue as almost all modern graphics cards work on PCIe 1.0. However, make sure to check the requirements o fthe card before you buy it.

As for the most suitable graphics card for you, its hard to say without knowing what tasks you wish to use this computer for and what is your budget. If you are only using it for office tasks, then the onboard graphics processor is more than enough for your use.

I should mention, that the motherboard processor support constrains you to the P4 series of CPUs. This is fine for moderate tasks, but if your gola is to play a game like Crysis, then even the most powerful, multiGPU graphics card will only make the game playable. You will probably never be able to max out your frames per second.

That said, the board supports up to a 3.4ghz CPU, which is fast enough to play almost every modern game if you upgrade to a powerful graphics card.

If you wish to do 3D graphics design, I would not recomend upgrading the video card for this purpose. Video rendering and processing stil does rely on the CPU. However, if you look into nvidia's CUDA framekwork, it is possible to offload rendering to the GPU. This is probably not worth the effort unless you are relaly short on cash.

Bottom line is, yes you can upgrade no problem. As for the best video card, I do need to know he reason you wish to upgrade the video card.

Change graphic card toshiba satellite S1800-712

Just try and check the available, open slots on the system's motherboard, whether it is AGP slot or PCI slot, then buy a VGA card of that type, making sure that you check the VGA Memory of the one you are buying (32M and Above should be ok for you depending on what type of applications you run on the system),
then insert this VGA card into available slot, then when you power up your system, go to the system setup (BIOS) and select the type of graphic card you are using as well as its memory size.
Check that you also select that the system should not use the On-Board graphics under the peripherals option in the BIOS setup also.
Hope it helps.
Goodluck!

Well my toshiba satellite u405-s2820 turns on but the screen is just black... what I'm I to do??

Firstly unplug everything from the laptop (even the power) and remove the battery, hold the power button down for 10secs then plug the power back in only, see what happens...

If nothings changed...
Try and plug a normal monitor into the VGA port and turn the laptop on;
you will get the toshiba POST screen if the graphics card still works (then the actual screen is at fault)
if you dont then the graphics card is at fault..

[Just a thought... does the laptop bleep when you first turn it on?]

Let me know how you get on...

There would be little problem upgrading the ram, however I can almost guarantee that the graphics is not upgradable. I would need to know more about the graphics hardware is in the computer. (i.e. integraded, graphics card, manufacturer, etc).

This seems to be a problem with the graphics driver. Find out what graphics chip you have, and download the latest driver.

From what I see you have an ATI Radeon HD 3470 Graphics
