SOURCE: My Onkyo Receiver TX 601 is turning itself off

May not help, but I had the same thing when I turned up the volume.. off it went.. then I found my two surround sound speakers had the wires shorting. Looks like a safety switch if there is a problem. Could check if the wires are crossed, shorted, and/or thick enouch to handle the volume.. test it by just having the stereo speakers enabled. Cheers,

SOURCE: My Onkyo tx-sr606 7.1 receiver turns off by itself

hi, when the unit shuts off by itself, it means that the protection circuity inside has been activated. it can be a problem with the receiver itself or it is just detecting something hooked up to it that can cause possible damage so it shuts off.

you would need to disconnect everything from the back and by itself, try to turn it on, see if it will stay on and then crank the volume way up to max. if it stays on, the receiver is ok and you then need to rehook your devices one by one starting with the speakers until you determine the one causing the receiver to shut off.

however, if the receiver shuts off and won't turn on even by itself, it means that the problem is internal and it either has to go back to your dealer for an exchange or it has to be sent to a repair center for servicing.

hope this helps a bit.. ^_^

SOURCE: TX-DS656 - No display, still works.

Mine goes out sometimes, if I go to the reciever and hit the "Display" butoon, the display lights up dim, at same time, I hit the " Dimmer" botton on remote and display works for about 1-2 weeks. Don't know what is cuasing it, but that got the dispaly to work. Can deal with that I guess.

How do I hook up my blue tooth headphones to my onkyo SR 605

You cannot rig up a blue tooth headphones to this receiver with out a blue tooth transmitter ( the Onkyo does not have one built in ). If you have a transmitter it can be plugged into the headphone out socket of the Onkyo ( in front ), just remember that it will cut out the sound from all your speakers when you insert the headphone jack . The advantage though with this connection is you can control the headphone volume using the Onkyo remote.

I have used the TX-DS656 for in excess of 10 years without any problems. Recently I found that sound was coming from only one speaker. On reading the user manual, it was suggested that I clear the memory....

That's an odd one all right.
My first thought is that it thinks it's getting a "balance left" or "balance right" command from the infrared remote receiver.
I'd actually be tempted to put black tape over the area where the photo-transistor is in the unit, and see if it happens again (downside: if you do it right, you can't use the remote during the test period).
If that fixes the issue, try removing the tape and putting the remote into a drawer so that you can tell if the remote is sending random commands, or if it's just the ambient lighting / sunlight doing it.

I have my Onkyo tx ds656 hooked up to my HDTV via the cable box. Everything works fine, except that there is a noticible delay in the syncronozation of the sound and the video. Is there any way to correct...

It's the nature of the beast. The TV has to process the digital video bitstream more than the receiver has to process the audio so the result can be a gradual lagging of the video behind the sound...

Some receivers have a sound delay control which you can use to try to sync them up. I didn

Left channel faiure - no sound

If you have sound from one channel it is probably not a catastrophic failure of the output stages.

First isolate the problem. Does it occur with all inputs? If so, it is at a common stage after the input switch. Otherwise, it is before the input switch.

Do you have  anything patched into the signal path between the pre-amp and amplifier, such as a recorder or equalizer? If so, bypass it or remove it and see if that solves the problem.

Also, sometimes the metal contact surfaces in switches oxidize and collect contaminents, causing and interuption to the signal path. Make sure the volume isn't cranked, and then work the controls back and forth - if the channel comes back, even briefly, there's a good chance you can either clean it sufficiently by working the control or better, getting a can of contact cleaner from Radio Shack or the equivalent, removing the covers of the receiver (after pulling the plug), and spray the cleaner into each control before working the control back and forth a half-dozen times. With really bad controls, this can even cause the sound quality to improve.

If this doesn't isolate the problem, its time to take it to a qualified tech.
