Question about Samsung DVD & Blu-Ray Players

7 Answers

I have a old Samsung DVD-V8600 and it will not play discs anymore. All it says is "Loading". I have tried several discs with same results. I have played the same discs on another DVD player and it works. How do I get the discs to play.

I opened and cleaned eye manually. I bought a cleaner. Still problem exists. Disc goes to "loading" and will not move. However, cleaner disk in audio not picture seemed to work fine and went through the 5 items.

Thanks. I hate to go to a professional repair person because of the price of the original DVD. Maybe I just need to get a new one.

Hello,
Optical lens gone. Needs replacement and cost would be higher then player's worth.
Best option is to buy new dvd player.
Good luck.

Purchase A DVD laser head cleaning kit assuming the laser head is just dirty.

The best method of cleaning the laser head is as Follows.

  • After removing the appliances Main Power plug.
  • And taking off the Top or outer Casing, allowing access to the players Laser-Eye.
  • Apply a small amount of alcohol or petroleum fluid, to a cotton swab ( Bud ) gently wipe the moistened ( Not Soaked ) bud across the glass laser eye, several times.
  • Re-assemble the casing, and try a dvd.
If this does not work .You can assume the laser or laser power Diode has burnt out.
And time for a new Player.

Optical drives uses LASER in tandem with a LENS to read the data off the CD/DVD.

LENS get dirty, a CD Lens cleaner is suggested for this.

LASER on the other hand dies.

Gm3warden hello,

Are you trying to play original DVDs, or burned DVDs?
If the second answer is the correct one, try an original DVD.
Also try playing a regular CD, for example a music album.
If none of them work, it seems as though there is a lens problem.
I would suggest going to your nearest computers/video rentals store and getting a CD lens cleaner disc.
Try using it twice or maybe even three times. Then try playing the DVDs again.
If it does not work, it seems as though the reading lens is out of place or burned - this might happen from time to time, especially as you mentioned your player to be relatively old. If that is the case, it might need a professional physical repair.

Hi,

see if the player tries to read the disc. Load a disc and listen.
Does the player make squealing noises or is it totally quiet? Squealing noises may indicate that the player is trying to synchronize with the disc but can't due to an obstruction on the lens or in the laser path inside the pickup or a defect in the pickup. This can also be caused by an intermittent signal problem due to a faulty ribbon cable.

Totally silent means that the photo sensor is not getting any usable input from the laser at all, meaning that the pickup is "blind" for lack of a better word.
This can be caused by an obstruction of the beam by foreign matter on the lens or inside the pickup all the way to a marginal or failed laser diode and/or photosensor array. This can also be caused by a bad ribbon cable with one or more severed traces.

You could try to clean the optics. This is the most common malfunction as far as i know in all disc players. It would involve taking the cover off and finding a way to expose the lense, and then cleaning it with a very gentle brush. some players have a cover for the lense that swings to the side during playing, this greatly reduces the chance of dust accumulating, but its still worth the try.

If you actually see dust on the lense, then its just that simple. clean, close, play.

It may also be worth your while to check on the small shafting that guides the carriage of the laser pickup. Dirt, grome, dust and solidified lubricant can cause stoppage of the carriage and the laser eye then fails to read the next track. Please refer to the image i have attached.

No disc spin-up when inserted or when powering up

The problem is in the pladder motor that spins the DVD, the motor needs to be replaced, but the problem is they only sell the laser pickup assembly, which is very expensive.

Try cleaning the laser lens. Either opening the unit and cleaning with a cotton bud, or try a lens cleaning disk.

When a disc is loaded, it reads no disc, and disc cannot be played.

It is very possible that the lens motor has burnt out. Sometimes the capacitors on the motherborard short out causing the gear timing to go out..

The only thing you can do to fix this is to take the cover off. Get cotton swab and dip it rubbing alcohol and clean the glass laser eye with it.

Its Sounds as if your DVD went kaput this tends to be a problem with most combination players usually the VCR goes first also you may need to run a cleaning CD made for DVD players maybe that will help.

Samsung 3650 dvd/vcr player loading problem

Sorry, no suggestion other than don't buy Samsung. That's my conclusion after owning the same model. It worked fine for a while, but now won't load any DVD... usually. Sometimes it will play one, but more often it won't. Mine tries to load ("Loading") for a long time, I hear the DVD spinning, then ultimately the screen displays "This disc cannot be played" or something to that effect.
