GE 32GT740 32" TV Problem

The Television worked fine one night. The next morning it just made the clicking sound like it was trying to come on, but no picture! I have tried unplugging it for a few days and replugging it in, but same problem! Now wondering what its gonna cost to fix, and is it worth it?

Same problem as has already been posted. This occurred to me 26 Oct 08. A clicling on and off again sound but no picture. There is also an over heating, burning smell from the rear.

im not a tv repair man so have no idea what the flyback transformer is or looks like..

in my curiousity i did remove the back of the tv and looked at the picture tube thinking that might be the problem.. i figured if it looked blackened that may be the problem, but it looked fine.

where do i locate the transformer?

    Quick follow-up question:
What would be the cost to solve this problem, if indeed it is the flyback transformer? I, too, had the same problem happen, around the same time frame. (Does anyone smell Friday-assembly-line issues?)

    Thanks for the feedback

Same thing, was working then just started clicking and picture went same time. Thought i was sitting on the remote or something at first, but was no where near it!! Is it worth fixing? Only paid around $240 +tx(OPEN BOX) back in '03, so it gave around 5 yrs good service. It was run pretty much all night(EVERY NIGHT!!!) and some day time as well..

Same problem here also. Only a clicking sound. Tried the remote and manual turn on. Unplug and still not working. Worked fine yesterday and today only clicking. This is weird. A timing issue as they all seem to be going out at the same time.

I was watching television and it clicked off and will not click on manually or electronically by remote. What's very wierd is that we're all having this issue around the same time. This is unbelievable, but I would like to keep my television, so please let me know if there's an easy fix or someone in Houston, TX who can fix it. Ms. Dee

so how much is it to repair something like the flyback transformer or is it even worth doing considering the tv was only about $300+ five yrs ago..

It is a great tv and Id hate to just throw it out if the cost of fixing it isnt going to be more than its worth..

Yeap-same issue here. Worked fine and then just clicking when attempting to power on. Never had any issues before!

OMG - Today is November 22, 2008 and my GE television was working fine. I was actually watching TV and the tv clicked off by itself. I thought, "How Twilight Zone." I can not get it to come back on. If you all can figure out how to fix it, let me know. I want to keep my TV. Ms.Dee

Try checking the flyback transformer. make sure everything is soldered. Be careful when handling the crt retains voltage. even if disconnected.

  • Sorry but it can't be fixed without knowing how a tv works on the inside. The problem is on the inside possibly in the horizontal section and should be taken to a repair shop

Television died

Unplug the set, remove the back and follow the power cord onto the main board, where you will see a small glass fuse. Replace that fuse with a new GMA 6.3 amp fuse. I have seen many of those fuses in Panasonics "pop" for no apparent reason. If that does not fix it then replace the back and have the set serviced by an experienced tech.

Older GE television sound trouble

The first thing to check is the push button assembly maybe the volume down button has been pushed in too hard/far and is always making contact, sometimes when we clean the face of the tube water drips down in thru the edge of the frame in the buttonts, corrosion sets in and creates a short,if you are familiar with tv service you can chech the buttons thru the inside to make sure they are not pushed in but if you are not famliar be safe and call for assistance froma servicer.
