Cleaning bottom coils

Hi. I am having trouble cleaning the coils on the bottom of my refrigerator. Any advice? The coils on my ref. are in a W pattern - on the bottom of the ref.- It is sitting so I can not get into the V of the W to clean it. There does not look like the is room to get a dust cleaner brush into it either. Any suggestions?

Here's an easy solution. I emptied the refrigerator and the freezer sections of all contents and shelves. I then tilted the box (it is really a light object with everything out of it) so that the side with the coils on it was resting on the bottom step of a folding step ladder that was 8.5 inches tall. The refrigerator was still well away from the tipping point and was very stable This gave me easy access to the entire depth of the "w" configuration of coils. Cleaning the coils took about 5 minutes and I'd estimate that they were 95%+ clean! Putting all the contents back took the bulk of the time.

I have also heard of using compressed air to blow the coils clean, but that sounds very messy...I have been thinking that somehow lifting the front of the fridge to get under the coils sounds like a better bet. better make sure the ice cube maker is empty too...

I\'ve been struggling trying to keep our 2 goldens dog hair from the coils of our 8 year old Kenmore side by side with "W" compressor coils, but like everyone else was unable to clean past the first set of coils.

I came up with this solution that worked to get much of the big stuff, hair and bunnies, off of the further back coils. Not perfect but much better than nothing.

Removing the back lower panel I was able to snake a crevice attachment from our vacuum down the right side of the coils (left side looking from back)

Looking from front"

I made a compressed air contraption to blow the dust/hair across the coils using a compressed air nozzle that I added a 10" long tube and a 90 degree deflector

From the front of the fridge, on the left side of the coils, I snaked the compressed air nozzle towards the back and started directing the air stream blowing towards the vacuum crevice tool at the opposite side of the coils.

The compressed air dislodged the hair/dust enough that the vacuum was able to suck it away. Again, not perfectly but certainly much better than I was able to clean the coils in the past.

I suppose you could use a can of compressed air and add some sort of deflector if you don\'t have a compressor.

I then got to thinking how to prevent the dust from accumulating on the coils, I\'m going to try an air conditioner filter. I cut it slightly oversized to fit the front opening then split it in half to make it thinner for more air flow.

Picture taken before making the filter thinner.

For years I had my calendar remind me monthly to vacuum the coils but now hopefully I\'ll be able to simply change the air filter.

How do I go about 'cleaning the coils' on a GE profile model - freezer is having trouble holding 0 F and I was told this would help. thanks

It is not necessary to clean the evaporator coil.
The condenser coil underneath may need cleaning.
Use a long handle bottle brush and a vacuum cleaner.
Your refrigerator freezer temp will fluctuate from minus 5 degrees to plus 18 degrees on a regular basis.
It will not be a steady temp.
