Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

1 Answer

We have a electronic garage door. Yesterday- when I pressed the button in the garage to close the door, it would lower but then go back up. I played with it about 15 minutes, trying to get the garage door to close. Do you think the sensor needs to be cleaned....why would it do that....

Well you little tips to tell if it is your sensor if your opener is a liftmaster/sears/chamberlain then you will hear clicking about 5 times or so coming from your opener also your lights on the opener will flash. If it is doing that then it is with out a doubt you sensors clean them make sure there both looking at each other. both lights should be solid not flashing or off. you might have to move them a bit to get them aligned. If thats not your problem and you door works well by hand you need to up the force on the way down for genie you need to take off the light cover and turn the nob toward the bigger number clockwise just a little. For lchamberlain products the force till be in the back you will need a small flat head screw driver to turn the screws. They are blue dont not turn any other ones. if you have to turn the pressure all the way up to make it work you should have your local garage door guy take a look at it.

Check to see if your child/animal security beam is working correctly. It is an "Electric Eye" mounted about 12 in off of the floor on two mounting points and one side shoots an infra red beam across to a receiver. These points must be reasonably aligned to flash a beam (cannot see) from one point to another. This beam keeps the door open if it is interrupted . If it is not aligned, then the door opener sees a problem and will not close the door electrically. You must aligned the beam by bending the transmitter or receiver untill you can close the door by the remote. Also check to see if something placed in the garage is not blocking the beam first.

Remove the cover from the motor unit and you will see the limit switch assembly. If you watch the operation I think you will understand it and be able to adjust it properly.

Door will move maybe a foot or so but goes back to original spot

You may have a fairly cheap problem that can be found by nearly any electronic tech in possession of a couple of instruments; specifically a decent multimeter and maybe a capacitance meter.
It is apparent that either some passive component or low-level transistor in the timing/sensing circuit has bit the dust.

Liftmaster pro 1/2 hp wont shut in one button press

You have a door sensor problem. Either your main light bulb is burned out or you don't have one in your opener. The clicking sound you hear is the relay for the light. Both of the door sensors should have a small light that is lit. Tweak them until they are.

Pressing remotes the door won't go u[

It sounds like you have the lock enguaged. When it is flashing it locks out all remote access. Hold the lock button for 3 seconds. The green light should go solid. On the issue of closing, it is most likely a safety eye issue. Hold down the wall button. If it closes it is the safety eyes. Holding the button overrides the safety eyes. Make sure that thelight on both eyes are both lit.

LiftMaster 1/3 HP- Garage Door Opens but will not close

I have had a similar problem related to my doors when they get cold-soaked. The tracks actually warp a little throwing the sensors off and causing the door to bind. The door will go down a bit then come back up. I overcame this be resetting the force that the motor puts out to lower the door and it works fine now. If you can wait for things to warm up, use the manual release lever and lower the door by hand and then reset the lever so the door can't be opened manually.

Garage door opened, won't close

If you can press and hold the wall button and the door will go down, you have a photo eye issue. Check the photo eyes at the bottom of the door.
