Epson EMP 500 turning off

By richhawk on Nov 01, 2008

" "
Hi, I have an Epson EMP 500, when i plug it in the orange power light comes on and is a steady light and a fan runs on the front, when i press the red on button the power light turns green and flashes on and off then stays a steady green and the projector starts working with a good picture. then after about 15 seconds the unit then shuts off instantly with no warning of lights flashing. I then have to unplug the power supply and wait about five minutes before i plug it back in for it to power up again and it then does the exact same thing. hope you can help.

- The fan is running and it is at room temarature 17*C

- The light does not flash red, it is a steady orange, which according to the handbook is normal operation, it then flashes green which acording to the handbook is the projector warming up and then the steady green is normal operation in working order, and it does all that, but it just suddenly shuts off with no warning or flahing lights. it does it after approx 15 seconds.

- I have tried all of the above, no difference, i find it strage that it was working ok, about two months ago, now it is faulty and there are no warning lights to tell me what is going on.

I believe that's an overheat problem. Check the fan if it's cooling properly. Make sure the unit is in a cool temp room.

Looks like the lamp is failing and you may have to have it replaced. The ON button green means that the system is functioning properly. Have you cleaned out the air filter on the underside of the projector? You can use a small computer vacuum cleaner to do this. It could also be indicative of a circuit failure. I recommend contacting Epson tech support before trying anything further. They can be reached here:

Most likely an hardware fault, see if the projector works fine with the cover opened, in this case is one of the fans that is not cooling enough because it is defective and runs too slow.

Do the following:

Unplug power cord.

Wait 5 minutes.

Plug cable back

If that does not work try holding the power button while you connect power cable back.

If still no luck, that means that the unit has an hardware fault, probably the main pcb, or a fan, otherwise it would not shut down.

Hardware problems that can cause shut down on a projector are:

  • Defective fan
  • Defective motherboard (heath sensor, CPU)
  • Defective lamp (uncommon)

in this case call the number listed on the printer owner manual to get it repaired.

Hi,
First of all check these things as follows :

The projector
must be connected to a computer or a video source such as a
video tape deck, camcorder, digital camera or laser disc player
before it can project any images.
You may also want to set up the projector for one or more of
the following:
• Connect the mouse cable to use the remote control as a
wireless mouse.
• Provide audio for one or both image sources. The audio
source can be the computer, video source, or another
device such as a stereo.
• Connect to an external speaker or PA system to amplify the audio.

1. Place the projector on a sturdy, level surface within five
feet of the computer or video source.
2. Place the projector at a correct distance from the screen.
3. Turn the projector so that the lens is at right angles to the
screen. If the projector is not angled correctly, the screen
image will be crooked.
4. Connect one end of the power cable to the projector’s
power connector. Connect the other end to an earthed
electrical socket.
The projector should be in sleep mode, indicated by an
orange power indicator.

Please follow the procedure and after that please inform if problem persists

Thanks

Since your status light is Orange and red flashing. This means that the projection lamp needs replacing.

If its steady red then the projection lamp has burned out. Replace the lamp
There may also be a problem with the lamp power supply, lamp fuse or projector circuit.

You need the projector to get checked by some technican.
