Re: Palm Centro - no backlight
The LED light has simply burnt out. I get those issues all the time with customer's phones. It could be a result of something they did or it could be a defect in the phone--nonetheless it can be fixed at a service center. You would need a new screen is all.
It wouldnt be good to do this yourself because once you get inside of the device there is a somewhat complicated wiring and alot of tape that you must pull up and you dont want to damage a wire if you dont know what you are doing. As far as parts, there is no site that I have found with genuine Palm parts.

First, make sure you backup all of your data, including data in any 3rd party apps.
Sync your first Palm Centro with the Palm Desktop software to save the data.
Verify the sync settings in the Palm Desktop software to make sure when you begin syncing with the new Palm Centro, the settings for each application (contacts, calendar, memos, etc.) are one-way sync to the device, or you might end up overwriting the data in your Palm Desktop software with what's on the new Palm Centro.
When you sync your new Palm Centro with the desktop software the first time it will ask you to name the new device. If you give it the same name as the old Palm Centro, all of the data will sync to your new Palm Centro.
Search your computer for a folder with the name "Palm" in it to try and locate the name of your old Palm Centro, so you can name the new Palm Centro the same. When you locate that folder on your computer, it would be a good idea to simply make a copy of that folder as a total backup.
This happened to my palm centro and i fixed it myself. :) Maybe it will work for you. What i did was take out the battery and so the phone is completely off.. then take a tooth brush with rubbing alchohol on it and scrubbed the bottom part of it that the hotsync cord goes into.. I thought this may just mess up my phone more but i plugged it back into the power cord, turned it on and it worked just fine!! Seriously, try this out. It brought me so much relief!! And chances are you either got some **** stuck up inside there, or you got the botton part wet. Hope i helped!!
Have you tried a soft reset by removing the battery and leaving it out for a couple minutes then reinserting it ? The Centro should run as normal after removing the battery and reinserting it. All your information is retained when you perform a soft reset.

Do a reset. You will lose all items on you device.
Take battery out. Put it in and hold the power button on till you see the palm logo the second time. Release when you see the 2nd logo. It will prompt you for pressing up to delete and reset. Press Up. It will take some time to reset and reformat but please wait.
After that your phone should come to the setup screen. I would hotsync after you setup to get your contacts back.
