Everything works on my centro except the backlight. Keypad light works fine. Tried all setting adjustments, soft restart and hard reset with no luck.

I have a problem with no backlight on my keyboard. I had the same issue a few days after I got the phone, but did the soft reset and the problem was solved. However, today noticed the keyboard not lighting up when I unlock/text. Tried to reset, but no luck.

Hi, my AT&T Palm Centro's keyboard backlight will not come on when
I turn the screen on - as it is supposed to do by default. My fiance
has the same phone, which I set up for him, and his backlight does come
on. What I can do is turn the backlight on by pressing the option+menu
keys or make it brighter by pressing the option+p keys - I read the
User's Guide & Manual from top to bottom. All the same, in a poorly
lit room the keyboard is invisible and hard to find the option+menu
keys to turn the backlight on. It is really annoying. Help.

I have the same problem everything on the phone works even the lights on the keypad just not the lights on the screen. im ready to throw this phone into a wall. Can you help me

I have the same issue with no backlight. Mine however, was the direct result of washing and drying the phone. To my surprise, every other feature works on the phone after a complete wash and dry cycle. The back light did flicker for a few days before finally going out completely.

My question... Does anyone know of a good site to get parts and a good site to walk you through replacing the necessary parts (inverter or backlight)?

My Palm Centro's keypad doesn't light up any more. This just happened all of the sudden. Really annoying and very unusable at night or in a dimly lit room.

My keyboard went out last week. Cant turn it back on. Anyone know why this happens? Is it a malfunction or is this a defect Palm should take care of?

ever since i had gotten my palm, my lights didn't work on the keypad. i never really knew why, or even asked, which i probably should've. i went through all my settings, and can't figure it out eithter.

    solutions?

I don't think Dr. Know's answer is completely correct. He says the LCD light is burned out. My son has a Palm Centro and the keyboard backlight won't light up while he is texting. However, we can get it to light up when we adjust the bightness. Therefore, it can't be burned out. There has to be a way to get the keyboard to light up while texting. Someone out there has an answer.

Sometimes we can resolve the issue by pressing the Options key and the Menu key simultaneously. The Centro Keyboard backlight would Turn ON.

The LED light has simply burnt out. I get those issues all the time with customer's phones. It could be a result of something they did or it could be a defect in the phone--nonetheless it can be fixed at a service center. You would need a new screen is all.

It wouldnt be good to do this yourself because once you get inside of the device there is a somewhat complicated wiring and alot of tape that you must pull up and you dont want to damage a wire if you dont know what you are doing. As far as parts, there is no site that I have found with genuine Palm parts.

Keys on my palm centro won't work!

Some phones have a keypad lock so you dont accidentally hit the buttons if its in your pocket or something. Maybe try to go to settings and see if there is anything like that.

The touchscreen light on my centro won't turn on unless the phone is plugged in to an outlet

Sounds like a power setting? Try looking in the Power section of the options menu. Backlight during call is one of them.

Hope this helps,

Palm Centro - continous Syncing problem, now phone is dead

This happened to my palm centro and i fixed it myself. :) Maybe it will work for you. What i did was take out the battery and so the phone is completely off.. then take a tooth brush with rubbing alchohol on it and scrubbed the bottom part of it that the hotsync cord goes into.. I thought this may just mess up my phone more but i plugged it back into the power cord, turned it on and it worked just fine!! Seriously, try this out. It brought me so much relief!! And chances are you either got some **** stuck up inside there, or you got the botton part wet. Hope i helped!!

My palm centro does not turn on and the red light stays on

Hello halvarez,

Have you tried a soft reset by removing the battery and leaving it out for a couple minutes then reinserting it ? The Centro should run as normal after removing the battery and reinserting it. All your information is retained when you perform a soft reset.

Palm centro wont boot

Do a reset. You will lose all items on you device.
Take battery out. Put it in and hold the power button on till you see the palm logo the second time. Release when you see the 2nd logo. It will prompt you for pressing up to delete and reset. Press Up. It will take some time to reset and reformat but please wait.
After that your phone should come to the setup screen. I would hotsync after you setup to get your contacts  back.

Palm Centro Constantly attempting to sync to computer

Okay.... here is the thing. These are KNOWN issues with Palm and sometimes for some devices even a hard reset won't fix this.

There are only two reasons your device would be doing this:
  • There is liquid/physical damage done to the phone
  • The device has a manufacturers defect
The thing about phone issues is they are not scheduled to occur at a specific time, they occur whenever with no warning. If your device is liquid/physically damaged that would make the issue more easy to come up because when the board is affected in any way by liquid or physical damage, then problems began to occur such as Hotsync, Inoperable Keypad, Random Resetting, No Service, etc.

If you bring your device into a service center, you shouldnt be charged unless you have damage internally to your device. Hard resets sometimes helps, but you have already lost your information on your device if that is what you are worried about.

If the hard reset doesnt work then you would definitely have to get another device which a service center can accommodate you with by ordering one to be sent to the store for you.

Transfer of treo programs to Palm Centro

The Centro and Treo are virtually identical. Have you tried reinstalling the applications from scratch on the Centro (vs. relying on Palm synch to automatically synch all applications)?
