My Lacie 500GB desktop hard disk was bought half a year ago, it's broken now, however I never droped or damaged it, but now it just couldn't be identified by my computer, I have changed the USB 2.0 cable, and the problem is not with my computer either, the disk still doesn't work, what can I do? help!

Thanks! However I tried but still, nothing happened.

The disk is an external, it got a power wire itself, but i'm sure the power is fine, there's no problem with the usb input either...

Change the wire and try testing it into another input.

also for clarification:

  • is the drive was connected internal or external?
  • did you got a power coming on your pc.?

try a different cables. theres no way the drive will be damaged unless you stored it not properly/

Hard drives are very susceptible to fall damage as they have moving parts. See if it's a power problem and look inside for any internal damage. If the data inside is really important then you should bring it to a data recovery center to obtain your data. Otherwise, hand it in for warranty since it's new!

My lacie Big disk 500GB drive will not mount

If Lacie does a kind of tickling noise that is the disk head. It means the disk is faulty.

I will post this on main thread.

I ve just bought a lacie desktop hard disk 500gb and its not doing anything

New hard drives are "Raw" and have to be formated for any Operating system to recognize it. If the Hard drive is installed I would suggest, if you have a Win98 cd, boot from that, select with cd rom support, at the prompt type in fdisk, Fdisk will display all fixed disks present, select your new HD and configure it, with large disk support, etc.

If you don't have a win98cd download GParted live cd and burn on cd. and boot with that it will display all hard drives and you can select your new HD and format it to fat 32 or ntfs or linux ext partitions/swap files.
