Ok when i press the on button it shows the hour glass thing and then it says SANDISK 512mb welcome! but it stays like that and i can't acces my music and the only way i can turn it off is to take the battery out. help please!!!
Not the same problem but close: when starting the player states "low battery don´t booting" and shut down. USB connection still ok.
the solution is about the same as written before here: - erase all files by computer connection. - make sure you have a ful baterry on the player. - on the first try after this is still said the same thing. Trying again (holding for a little while the start button) the player recovers for this error.
I had that today. Seemed to have some corrupt files on it.
My solution was to attach the unit to a PC's USB port, find it as a drive in Windows Explorer, then right-click the drive and select format. Obviously it erases everything but works fine afterwards.

Is it detected in itunes?
You're supposed to press menu & ok button only after the following steps-
1.turn off your ipod if its on.
2.slide the hold button on and off a couple of times and then when hold is in off position, press and hold centre and menu buttons till a silver apple appears on screen.then connect to itunes and restore.
If you have an iPod, Press the Menu and Center buttons until the ipod reboots..it should be ok. If it is not, repeat the above and when you see the apple come up, switch your fingers the the center and play/pause buttons. this will put it in disk mode. hook it up to itunes and restore it.
This should help. When the hourglass symbol stays on, press and hold down the start button for at least 15 seconds. The screen should clear and then you can navigate back to the correct opening screen and select music, videos, photos etc. as you require.
I'm SOOOOOOO excited i got it to work again. I took off the back cover and removed the battery while the scroller was on and blue, then right above the battery there is a black rectangle thing that was not flush with the rest of it. I pressed that in turned it on, and bam it was good to go. I hope you all have as good of luck as I have had. Let me know if it worked for you!
Maybe cause by a corrupt boot loader in the device, upgrading the firmware will help resolve this issue. Perform Recovery mode on the player. Enable Hold Switch + Press and hold record button + Press And hold menu or power button until it says on the screen welcome to recovery mode. Then download the sansa firmware updater on your computer and perform the update.
Turn off the player after turning it off. Perform recovery mode ( Enable hold switch + Press Record button + Power/Menu button ) until it says welcome to recovery mode and perform the update for the player. Then after doing that you may have to format the player. :D
