Question about Philips DIRECTV H20 DTV Receiver

1 Answer

DTV H20-600 Do you know if the low lnb voltage would also cause the receiver to lock up after a few hours consistantly? I have two of these and the one that is locking is the one with the low voltage. The unit does not find any sats until you plug in the other one that powers the lnb then sats are found. Work for about 4-6 hours than locks. Doing the reset also does not fix the lock up. The lights cycle and the receiver locks. The only way I found to temporarily fix it is to hit reset then upon the second cycle of the green light hit the power button right before the last green lights. Then let the receiver boot then all is well for 4-6 hours then you must repeat.

You could check the voltages yourself to see if they are low. The horizontal polarity needs about 19 volts and the vertical polarity about 14 volts to work properly. If those voltages are lower by 25%, the receiver might failed to scan and that is when it locks up because is trying to find signal. The other issue could be a defective power supply if the receiver does not work after that 4 hours. There could be some capacitors that lost their dielectric strength causing the drop in voltage.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

Dish 625 with legacy lnb

Hi beltone669,

Our 625 receiver uses DP technology. A legacy LNB would not work with the receiver. You would need either a DP Dual or a DPP Twin. If you have any other questions, let me know!

Hello, my name is Becki Barned with Dish Network customer service. There are a few other things that could be wrong here. There are many components between the dish and the receiver that could cause this, and in rare cases, it could be the receiver. It could be a cabling issue, where there is a corruption in one of the cables going to this receiver, it could be, as I said, the receiver, just not being able to read to the dish anymore. The best resolution may be a technician. If this hasn't yet been resolved, please post back, and I would be more than happy to help further. You can also find us on Twitter for tech help as well.

Hi mfpayton with the install of the brand new receiver wealways want to make sure all connections are tight. And after all connectionsare hand tight we will need to run the Check Switch Test. It will provide thestrongest signal to your home and you will see the signal move up into the 65percent range. If after the Check Switch Test it still is a low signal we mayneed to check the connections from the Dish and LNB that is an issue we wouldneed to come out on. I will leave the link to show you how to do the CST.http://www.dishnetwork.com/SupportSection/complete-sig-loss

Receiver 510 error code 836

err 836 means you have changed your recvr to a different dish or LNB's or your missing one or more satellites needed for your installation or programming needs. if this has been in the same location and connected tot he same dish and you dont have sats 105,or 121 listed in the install summary then you will need a technician to check your dish. It could be out of alignment or a faulty LNB.

I do not have an schematic for this receiver. This receiver might not use LM317 or TIP42C but a different voltage regulator, try to locate where the 20 volts line from the power supply and follow it to anywhere near the LNB tuner circuitry. This type of IC is normally mounted on a heatsink.
Lastly if you are a subscriber, give you satellite service porvider a call to get a replacement.

Searching for Satellite

The voltage is supplied by the power-supply through the RF/IF interface usually encased in a metal box on its own. Also without knowing the model number of your unit I cant help any further.

Directv h20 receiver has low volyage to the lnb.

Check inside the receiver for a defective LM317 IC or a TIP42C transistor, but before that you should check for proper voltage from the power supply to that IC.
LM317/TIP42C control the switching of voltages that power up the LNB, you should be getting 14 volts for vertical channels and 18 volts for horizontal.
Good Luck.

First, verify the oscilador circuit of the power. It´s normal the IC is damage or the mosfet.
Second, desconect the principal board and verify if has tensions on secundary part.If positive, the problem is on principal board.
