TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on at all. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN YOUR BATTERY IS DEAD

You check the calculator settings. It will show you the percentage of battery energy. If the calculator refuses to turn on, the battery are dead.

Dead Battery?

Take out the batteries. Also take out the backup battery. It is a button battery beneath the screw in the battery compartment. Check the button battery volts with a multi-meter. After 5 minutes put the button battery back in and then the fresh batteries. It might work now. Alternatively take out a battery, then hold the clear button and put the battery back in. Then try to turn on. If it still does not work take out a battery press the del button and put the battery back in.

Ti 84 plus cannot clear or divide HELPPP!

We had one that did the same thing. The retailer we purchased it from advised us to remove the batteries and put fresh ones in, then turn it back on. Ours resolved itself. Hope this works for you. If not, return it to the retailer you bought it from. Could be a lemon.

My TI-84 has been used for one year already. I thought it was dead but when I inserted new batteries it started working again. I was lucky to have it work for just over a day and it died less than a day...

This could have been caused by damage from the previous owner but, most electronics have a certain life-span that no amout of batteries can help.
I too had a TI-84 silver edition, and one day it no longer worked. I don't believe there is any solution to this problem. My advice is to simply get another one new.

MY CALCULATOR IS NOT WORKING ANYMORE BUT IF I PUT IT THROUGH TH LIGHT IT WORKS,,BUT I CANT DO IT ANYMORE,PLS HELP OR MAYBE ILL GO BUY NEW ONE..LOL

Hi:

if puttin it to the light makes it work than what you got is some dead batteries you need to replace . Check the back cover and see what batteries your calculator need to be replace it with; than go to the watch repair dept in walmart or meijers buy two batteries and have them take off the back cover and remove the old batteries and replace them with new put your back cover on and your calculator will work as good as new.

Blank lines across the screen of a TI-86 graphing calculator

Try this, hook up new battery and go to MODE and darken and lighten the screen.. do it ten to fifteen times. if that doesn't help, try hook up most left and most right's battery terminal to a DC supply at 4.5V. dont go above 4.5 it will fry your calc (it is design to handle 3V). now you are forcing extra juice into the dead LCD screen lines... and reapeat the MODE + darken trick. I fixed mine like that! Works! and remeber to leave it completely black(darkest) for a while to keep that dead line alive!

First time used in months

Check the batteries polarity.
Perhaps it needs a "reset", some calcs do have a "button" therefor, some do if you press the start button for some seconds.
Try to leave the calc overnight without any batt. inside.
