Question about Bernina Artista 180

What is lastest version of artlink w/ 180e to use with new .ART files

I' ve bought some .ART files online to use with my V2.0 Artlink program. However, it is too old to read these new files. I've seen a V4.0. Is this new enough?

Also anyone know of any other editing / designing programs under a $1000 to be used with the old machines (Artista 180's etc). Doesn't seem right that noone has figured it out yet......

YOU COULD BUY ONE OF THE "OSED EXPLORATIONS" EMBROIDERY PROGRAMS. CLASSIC FOR AROUND $359 OR GALAXY FOR AROUND $850. THIS WORKS WITH BERNINA MACHINES.

Yes you can use V4.0 artlink it is available in some markets upto V5 it just depends what version the designs were done in. If it was higher than V4.0 you may still have an issue. Have a look at some of the programs like Embird for more cost effective ways to edit designs but you will still need Artlink to load designs onto the machine.

How do I connect a 180e serial cable to my usb computer when Artlink and CPS software specify serial port?

I've not successfully managed this ... trouble-is that although you can get USB-to-serial converters, most computers that only have USB ports do not properly 'recognise' COM ports, which is what your Artlink software expects to talk to. I still use an old PC with a 'proper' 9-pin serial port on the back in order to talk to the old Artista range of machines. One of the drawbacks of a 'throwaway' PC industry that expects the rest of the world to continually update everything in response to new interface standards!

I have a Bernina 170 and do not now how to install software, what type of software I need, I have the original cable, but I need help on how to install software, etc.

Go to the Bernina Website and download "Artlink Version 6". It's a free download and works well for the basics of downloading files into your machine.

I use Windows 7 on a laptop and purchased a USB to serial converter cable from Best Buy. The brand was Dynex. Some converters do not work but this one worked for me.

Anyway my wife is running an Artista 180 and she has not done much with it until lately. We had some older software on an old PC from years ago but of course that machine died and was long gone.

Using the Dynex USB to Serial cable and the Artlink software got us rocking and rolling again.

My Bernina Artista 180E no longer works with updated Windows. Is it possible to upgrade so that I can still use my 180E and not have to buy another machine?

Just use the free download software from Bernina called Artlink. I used it along with a USB to Serial converter cable to connect to the machine. Works wonderfully. Allows me to still use my old Artista designer software if I want to on an older machine and then when I want to actually transfer the designs I use the laptop with the USB cable.

I purchased a CD Rom embroidery which had the usual formats on its cover, including art. which is what I need. I could open the CD on my computer, but when I tried to send it to my Artista 180, it told me...

How did you try to transfer the ART design to your 180? It needs Artlink by Bernina to do so or the Bernina Designer program. There are different ART versions and as I know, only the Designer can convert it to the version that your model can handle. I also own some CDs and never had any problem transferring any to a Personal Design card or stitching them out with my Bernina 165.

Seeking ARTlink V2.0 - Service Pack Driver Update 2.19

Another possible approach. Again, researching for my own problems, I wrote to Bernina. They gave me the link to the old database, which, well, maybe it's just me, but I couldn't find this from their current site. I saw some info about an Artlink download that is available, but not supported, so maybe it's the one you want. Hope so. .

Bernina has a new version of Artlink available from your local dealer. It is not free, older versions do not work with Vista, sorry for the bad news.
