Dear Sir/madam,

I have found the way to convert MVI files to Windows Media. First, I downloaded a free program called 'Stoik Video Converter'. This program converts the MVI video file in the Canon A70 Powershot to AVI format for QuickTime at a rather small file size. For those who still want to convert it from AVI format to Windows Media, Download and install the Windows Media encoder 9 series (also free). Thing is with the Windows Encoder, it makes the file sizes much larger in comparison to the AVI file size. After conversion, you can then open the movie in Movie Maker to edit it.

Go to http://www.download.com/1770-2001_4-0.html?query=klite+media&tag=srch&searchtype=downloads

and download the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 4.2.5 and install it.

This will help you in playing the MVI file in Windows media player. Moreover the codec I provided above will also help you in playing all kinds of DVD movie in Windows Media Player.

Happy Halloween Day.

Thanks

How to convert MVI to AVI file for edit in Pinnacle Studio?

Some Canon digital still cameras (Powershot A75, A63, S410 etc), are capable of shooting a limited amount of video, since there is no tape, it is saved as an MVI file format. However, the MVI file format is not compatible with other programs. Even windows media player refuse to play MVI file. Besides, editing software like Pinnacle Studio and Windows movie maker do not work with the format. Because of this, the files need to be converted to a format that is more widely used, such as AVI so that these videos shot with still camera can be played and edited as easily as other common videos. This guide is to tell how to do that.
Software you'll Need: Pavtube Video Converter

Step 1. Download Pavtube Video Converter, and follow the prompts to install the program. Click "Finish" when the installation is complete, and Pavtube Video Converter will launch automatically.

Step 2. Click “Add” to load MVI files or directly drag the files into file list. By default, the files are selected. If you would like to join all the selected files together, check the box of Merge into one. You could view the files in preview window, simply highlight the file and click play button.

Step 3. Click “Format” bar to determine output format. Follow Common Video-> AVI Video (*.avi)/ DivX AVI(*.avi). Click “Settings” if you’d like to customize advanced audio and video parameters like Video Codec, aspect ratio, bit rate, frame rate, Audio codec, sampling rate, bit rate, channels. Do not forget to click “OK” to confirm your settings. Then type in a desired output location in the "Output" box.
Step 4. Click "Convert” to start converting MVI files to AVI. You could set auto shutdown in progress window or leave it there and come back later. After conversion you could edit the converted video in Pinnacle Studio, and make a film out of it or burn it onto DVD.

Can't Download A Large File from Canon A560 Digital Camera

Get a card reader. The one pictured below is $13 at Walmart. Create a folder on your desktop. Insert your card into the card reader and the other end into a USB port on your computer. Drag and drop the video file into the folder you created. b957eb4.jpg

The video files your particular camera makes should be AVI format. What media player are you using? I've heard of problems playing AVI files with Windows Media Player.
Try using a different media player like VLC or Winamp. There are also video format conversion programs out there for free. I use anyvideoconverter for that. You can get all of those programs from cnet.com's download center.

Editing videos taken from canon dc100 camcorder

I see here that . . .

"The DC100 takes 3-inch Mini DVD-R/RW discs, and like most of its competitors, can fit about 20 minutes of best-quality video on one. If you choose to initialize a disc for playing in a standalone player, the camcorder writes standard VOB files; if you initialize for future editability, it records in the VRO format. Windows Media Player can play the latter if you rename the file with an MPG extension, however the aspect-ratio information gets lost--that info is encoded into a separate file--so 16:9 video will get squashed into 4:3. "

Cnet Reviews.

Your videos are recorded in the common DVD format called MP2.
They have the extention .MPG so if you copy the video files to your computer, and change the end of the filename from VOB, or VRO to an MPG then your software can recognize it as the MP2 format that it is.

There is a Windows XP program, called Windows Movie Maker, it can open your video files and provide you with most of the video editing tools.

Cheers.

Canon PowerShot 560

They are AVI's, it's just that there filename begins with MVI. If you can view there filename extensions, you'll see ".avi". The problem you're experiencing is that Canon videos use the MJPEG codec video compression scheme. This codec comes with Windows XP and better, but is not a default for Windows 98 or earlier.

Before going out on the web looking for MJPEG codecs, would first ask if you have installed the software disk that came with your camera? If not, get out the disk and do so, it should install the needed codec on your computer. But if this doesn't work for you, here's some suggestions from other people with the same problem:

FORMATTING PROCCES...DOES NOT WORK FOR ME HELP!!!

You can Format your device by using the Sansa Media Converter, Windows Media Player, or manually through "My Computer". Best and easiest way is through "My Computer".

Connect your player. Go to "My Computer" > right click "Sansa e200" > drop down to "Format".

Or do it on Windows Media Player. Connect the player and open up Windows Media Player. Go to the "Sync" tab. Click on the arrow underneath it. Drop down to "Sansa e280" and then to "Format". This can only been done in Windows Media Player 11.

Or go to format under one of the options of the Menu Bar on the Sansa Media Converter.

http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1468 How-to videos. Look under "Sansa MP3 Player" option 8. "Windows Media Player 11" option 9. For how-to methods provided by sandisk on formatting.
