Get a CD laser cleaning kit and clean the laser. If this does not work I strongly suspect the laser is going weak and can no longer properly burn in to the disks. I doubt it is a software fault. The fix is to change the drive to prove that the drive's laser is actualy going bad.

My cd/dvd produplicator is now only burning cds and not dvds. I am getting error message that says target drive not ready. Is there a solution or must I replace the target drive altogether?

You can try going to manufacturer's website to see if there is a firmware update. You can try uninstalling a reinstalling the application/drivers for the device as well.

The drive will not burn cd's. It rejects the disc to be recorded and say no disc in drive. you can read from it or load a music cd. It does everything but burn cd's. Disc drive atarts to spin but speeds...

This situation will sometimes occur if the laser device is dirty. You can purchase a CD drive cleaner at most discount retailers inexpensively, and give that a try.

If that does not solve the problem, then it's probably time for a new disc drive.

Hope that's helpful.

When I try to play a C.D. on my system it says frmtread error

That error is (Format Read Error). Usually a MP3 problem when the disc was burned too fast, or corrupted during burn. Some writing programs dont put an initial track on the CD designating it an audio disc. I have seen Nero have many Problems with this. FYI
Try burning 1x speed on the next disc, yes slow, just to see if it works. If so then gradually increase the burnning speed up again.

Won't record record to CD-RW

First make sure your cdrw disc is blank. If it is blank try another good known cdrw brand disc and burn it in 12x speed for a good burn.

If it still fail check the software side of your cd rewriter first and lastly the cd rewriter unit.

SAMSUNG DVD R120 error EC:0207

I had exactly the same problem -- error message of "This disc can be neither played nor recorded. Please check the disk [EC:0207]" after the machine had been working fine for a year. I downloaded the latest firmware from the Samsung website, burned it to a CD-R disk (took three tries until the DVD Recorder recognized the disk -- worked when I used Rocio CD Creater software), then loaded the firmware updates to the DVD Recorder. On the Samsung website you can retrive the firmware update instructions as well. I had to perform the firmware upgrade several times until it successfully updated both the system firmware as well as the disk firmware. After successfully updating both, the Recorder now recognizes the DVD-R disks and I was able to resume recording. I have however, noted some choppiness with the playback of the newly recorded disks. Other than that, the firmware upgrade successfully resolved the problem.
