Re: Whenever i turn on my camera i have to enter the date...

Most (all?) digital cameras have an internal battery that resembles a watch battery. This battery is responsible for maintaining the system settings i.e. date and time. Your's is likely dead. Some of these batteries can be accessed without cracking open the body others can't. Check out your manual to see if you can get to it and replace it - that should fix your problem.

Here is the link for the user manual

On page 16 it explains two ways to set date & Time.
1st is when you turn on the power it will ask you to set the time & date, and you can enter it.
2nd way to set time & date, or change it is to press the MENU key, and select "Set Date & Time".

The date and time is asked whenever the camera is switched on

Have you set the date and time? If so then your camera's date battery is probably dead and needs to be replaced. First get yourself a CR1220 battery, most often found at your local Radio Shack or online at amazon. Then open the camera's terminal cover (where your USB is) and using your fingernail. Open the battery holder, remove the old battery, and replace with the new one. Reinsert the holder with new battery in your camera and turn on your unit. set the date and time and you should be all set. For further information see your instruction manual or download from Canon at:'

The instructions for changing the date battery start on page 137.

Hope this helps!

I received a canon powershot as a gift last year and am just now really starting to use it. The pictures seem fine, but the it seems like I am frequently requested to put in the date and time (i.e. about...

There is a button battery in your camera (CR1220) that remembers the date and other settings when you remove the main batteries. It probably needs to be replaced. It's in a slide-out holder next to the AA batteries (see page 184 in the manual).

You turn on the date stamp by using the photo size settings. Press the Function key and scroll down to the bottom item (usually L). Then scroll over to the Date Stamp icon (to the right of the L, M1, M2, M3, S options). Press the Function/Set key again.

Camera Keeps Restarting

What we always did at tech support was had the customers take out their memory cards first. Power on the camera, press the menu button, go to setup, go down to reset, press right arrow and cofirm through there. Then press menu again, go to setup, go down to format, press right arrow and confirm again. You will have to enter your time and date HOPEFULLY one last time. Try it and if that doesn't work then it is an internal electrical error and needs to be sent in. :)

Camera resets when powered off

On my mother-in-law's Exilim camera, we resolved the issue by formatting the camera's internal memory storage (take out your memory card and navigate to the format option on the menu). You'll need to then set the date and time again but it then seems to store it. Hoping that helps someone.

has worn out- replacing it will be a workshop job.
The other problem seems like wear and tear on the switch any repair will be costly.
