Replacing a cd-rom drive

I need to replace the cd-rom drive on my Toshiba Satellite L15 -S104. I'm not sure how to open up . I believe the entire plastic around keyboard needs to be removed, but not sure. Also, will I have to remove the screen from teh hinges to do this. It appears that I do, but I'm not sure. Can anyone help?

Most notebook optical drives are not too bad, usually only 1 or 2 screws hold the optical drive in from the bottom. Remove the screws, pop out the drive and pop in the new one. For the drive, try here:

Check the How Do I Identify my model #.

Hi Welcome to FixYa! You dont have to worry. You could buy a retail copy of Windows XP from a computer store.
Then, if its with the drivers for your computer that you are worrying about, you could refer to the link below so that you could download the appropriate drivers for it: http://tinyurl.com/L15-S104

Hope this would be a big help!

CMOS or RTC battery for this laptop : can it be replaced

Hi AshishB, Yes, Toshiba does refer to the CMOS battery in their literature as the real time clock battery. Your retailer is half right, the battery is on the motherboard but its attached via a connector and it can be replaced. Here are links to a couple of venders that sell the RTC battery for your laptop: - Http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/Toshiba,Satellite,L15-S104,Laptop,Batteries-Backup-RTC.aspx - http://cgi.ebay.com/Toshiba-Laptop-motherboard-battery-cmos-L15-S104_W0QQitemZ170060189842QQihZ007QQcategoryZ3666QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem Let us know if you have any other questions and please don?t forget to rate the posting.
