Boot your recovery cd and choose the language, then on the second page , select repair options. Then on then next page, select system restore. Pick an earlier date restore point, and let it finish. It should restore it to where it was working.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Hi,
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.
click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

CANNOT LOGIN TO ACER LAPTOP

hi Jo.
an id password is what is needed to let you log on to your laptop.
if you do not know this then you will not be able to use the laptop.
so you will have to try this.
Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help in solving the issue.
- Do a hard reboot, remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds then try logging in again.
- If it doesn't work do try logging in Safe Mode, while the laptop is booting up repeatedly press on F8 until it loads Advanced Boot Options and select Safe Mode then press Enter.
- If it doesn't work in Safe Mode you may need to reinstall Windows to solve the issue.

Please try this: turn off your computer. Then turn it on, and right after the black screen with white text or the computer company logo disappears, press & release key F8 repeatedly until a menu appears, then you select Safe Mode (note: if there is no menu, then try the same steps again, but this time, press key F8 a bit earlier). Then login and click Start->all programs->accessories->system tools->system restore and restore the computer to any date before this issue has occurred, then wait until system restore finish, then check.
if this does not work you may have to put a new set of windows back on your laptop.

How to reset admin password with the cmd when you are a standard user

What's your operating system? After logging in as standard user, you have insufficient privileges to change the admin password via cmd. You need to boot with Windows install media, and replace sethc.exe with cmd.exe. When rebooting to the login screen, you can launch a command prompt and reset your password there.

Reset my password on my acer laptop

If you know the current password then click Start/Control Panel/User Accounts. Under user accounts select change password.

If you forgot the password, turn off the laptop then turn it back on and repeatedly hit the F8 key until you see SAFE Mode. Select Safe Mode and let it boot up. You will see a login screen with the Administrator account and the Account of the id that you forgot the password. Select the Administrator account (hopefully it will not be password protected). One you are logged in click Start/Control Panel/User Accounts. Select the account for which you forgot the password and then select Remove Password. Reboot your laptop.

I don't have a password for the set up utility screen!

BIOS password to enter set up?

When you boot up to the log in screen type in administrator as user to log in if you cant log in

during the boot up process you will see on the screen for a short amount of time press a certain key to enter set up press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS scroll down to set user password or supervisor password you can change or remove your password from there

if no luck with this

The most common way that we know on how to reset or clear the BIOS password is to physically remove the power from the computer by disconnecting the power plug and then removing the Cmos battery for 30 minutes from the motherboard. Another way is to reset the clear CMOS jumper on the motherboard itself. Both of the 2 methods mentioned works because most motherboards use a battery to sustain the BIOS/CMOS settings for the motherboards PROM chip. So by cutting off cmos the battery power, the BIOS/CMOS settings will be erased.

Hope this helps you

Try log in as Administrator account from Safe Mode. Reboot, after the first screen bios information, press F8 button repeatedly before the Windows logo come out, after that select Safe Mode At the Top one, after the boot, log in administrator account. Username: Administrator Password: -just leave it blank- When you logged in, go Control Panel, then User Control/User Account, then select the account which you forget the password, now remove the password.(or you can change it) Reboot your system.

Computer when i turned it on said disk read erroe occured and now when i try to start it in safe mode it just keeps restatring it self

1
Start up your computer.

2
Immediately insert your Windows XP install CD. As the computer boots, a boot menu will appear (if you did not insert the CD in time, you will not see the menu; in this event, simply reboot the computer again).

3
Select the option to boot from the CD. A setup screen will soon appear.

4
Press the "R" button on your keyboard at the setup screen in order to open the repair console.

5
Type in the administrator account's log in password if you are prompted to do so. If there is no log in password, simply leave the password slot blank and continue. After this step, a command prompt will appear.

6
Type in "chkdsk" (minus the quotation marks) and press "Enter." Allow the operation to run.

7
Type "Exit" (again, minus the quotation marks) when the operation is complete, and press "Enter." If your computer boots correctly, great! If not, move on to the next step.

8
Reboot and repeat Steps 3 through 5.

9
Type "fixboot" (minus the quotation marks) and press "Enter." Once it is complete, repeat Steps 7 to 8.

10
You might need to reinstall your operating system.

Thanks.

When I turn on my computer it begins the boot then goes black

Try booting into safe mode. That will disable all drivers and use generic windows drivers to send commands to the devices. If that still doesnt work, id say that there is a problem with your OS installation. Backup your files using an external harddrive enclosure and reinstall the OS.
