Not and easy deal. the whole top of the laptop has to come apart. Remove display then keyboard and whole top panel. Not something I would recommend for the first timer..

Keypad needs replaced and I need to find the correct one

If you need to purchase one Amazon has it: http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=aspire+keyboard&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=3451242089&ref=pd_sl_cxsfg05xc_b

But I'm going to assume you need instructions on how to replace the keyboard.
A very good guide for the 5100 model can be found here: http://www.insidemylaptop.com/taking-apart-acer-aspire-5100-laptop/

I've noticed that most Acer Aspire keyboards are removed in a similar fashion.

Good Luck!

Try to remove ram memory and put it back after a while. Do it on removed battery.

Aspire 5100 and aspire 9100

I'm not sure I understand completely the problem you are having with your Aspire. However, it seems you are having problems with keyboard, touchpad etc.

One thing I realized a few months ago, mine started going crazy. I searched the web all over and found that REMOVING the battery completely solved the problems with the keyboard and touchpad problems.

I have to use mine without the battery in. Only plugged in.

Try removing the battery, leaving it out, plugging in the power supply and see if that does not fix the craziness of the touchpad and keyboard.

Good luck!

Replacement acer key

In most cases the entire keyboard needs to be replaced. Your best bet is to contact the manufacturer to purchase the keyboard as laptop parts are 99% proprietary.

Acer 5100

There is a strip of plastic above the keyboard you have to pull off to get at the screws for the keyboard.

I would remove any screws under the laptop that go into the strip above the keyboard and any screws that are under the keyboard.

Then carefully pry the strip above the keyboard up with your hands or use a small flathead screwdriver along the edge.

Hope this helps!
