The Inverter board that brightens the LCD is bad. It is easy to replace, if you are a little tech savvy. I purchase them from this site:

You may have to copy and paste the link into your browser.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Tip

Dim screen for laptop LCD screen

We have all ran into a problem where you go to turn on your laptop and the screen turns very dim to where you can barely see the picture.

Alot of times the LCD cable the one that goes from the LCD to the motherboard becomes loose. If you see it loose or not, unseat and reseat the cable at both ends.

You should at this point have video. If you don't then its either going to be a problem with the LCD or the inverter.

Good thing is when you replace the screen the inverter comes with it so you'll definitely be able to fix the problem either way.

What's your problem?the screen turns very dim to where you can barely see the picture

Your monitor is going bad or your video card is going bad. Try using another monitor on the computer to isolate the problem. Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and see if you can barely see the icons and desktop on it. If the borrowed monitor is bright and clear and you can see things ok, then your original monitor is going bad. If the borrowed monitor shows the same problem of barely being able to see things, then your video card in the computer is bad.

I have a Dimension C521 Dell desktop with Windows XP. All of a sudden it is acting funny. It works for a couple of minutes when turned on and then all of a sudden goes to this blue screen with error. Need...

A large percentage of the time that a computer "blue screens" is because the RAM (memory) has gone bad. Sometimes it's an indicator of a failing hard drive, cpu, or several hardware failures. Can't really say for sure without actually taking a look at it. The cheapest and easiest way is to start checking your RAM. I suggest buying a 512MB or 1GB stick of ram, and then try replacing the existing RAM. If you aren't confident in opening up your computer then I would take it to a shop for them to check it out. madhattercomputers.com

My screen has suddenly gone quite dim

Thats because your LCD uses 2 fluorescent light tubes to illuminate your display, and one of then just died.
Find a similar one at Geeks.com. It's a lot cheaper than buying retail

My laptop screen is very dim, cannot read or see looks faded

Try using the brightness controls on your keyboard to brighten the screen. If that doesn't work then that means either the lcd or the inverter has gone bad.
