Question about JVC AV-56WP74 56" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Horizontal Lines I have a JVC 56 inch HDTV. I am having problems for about 2 weeks as I was watching TV the picture would go, with horizontal line through the whole screen. If I turned it off for a while and turned it back on the picture came back. Put it would do the same thing after about 1 hour of viewing. Recently the picture went off completely. The on button would not turn off the TV. I unplugged it and waited a while, plugged it back in and turn on the set and I heard it go with the sound but for a few seconds and it shuts down, I have to unplug to turn off power to it. Do you have any suggestion on how to fix the problem. The set is only 2 years old.

Re: Horizontal Lines

The unit most likely has a short in the horizontal section and would require repair by a service center. Go here to find a JVC repair center in your area

It is worth getting an estimate. From the symptom you explained, it looks like the horizontal output transistor became defective.

Green Background with red wavy lines

Projection TV sets have two very common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

If you guys do not have hand soldering skills or know how to use a multimeter, I would suggest to replace the whole assembly.
If you know how to solder you can just replace 2 ICs that are mounted on the big black heatsinks and possibly 1 or more resistors.
Click here to find the entire assembly for your TV.
The link provided is for parts for the AV-56WP74 model ONLY. For the 65 inches; you should contact the vendor and provide the correct model number.
Good Luck.
