Question about Websites

1 Answer

QVC Website I can get to the QVC home page www.qvc.com But when I click on a link in the upper right corner For example "customer service" It fails. Has been happening ever since they upgraded the website. This happens on 2 diferent computers in my house One uses a Netgear router and the other uses a cisco router. So I don't think the router is the problem. I believe QVC changed something that is preventing me from using the links within the homepage.

I cannot access QVC items. They appear in a bovx with a little red x. This is the only web site I am having trouble viewing.

  • Anonymous Nov 27, 2008

I called QVC and they do not have a technical help line. Too bad, I'm a 15 year customer that's about to do all my holiday shopping elsewhere.

Thank you for the reccommedation but unfortunately it did not resolve the problem. By the way the problem occurs even if I "bypass" the routers and go directly from my PC to the modem.

This is why I was positive that the problem was not due to my router. I paid Microsoft to resolve the problem. They did a system trace and deterimined that the path my ISP provider (Optimum) is

taking is the problem. For some reason the path times out. The Optimum technicians have NOT been able to resolve it even though they have been working on a solution for months. Very very disappointed. Thank you for trying to fix the problem. I am seriously considering switching ISP's going to Verizon.

I can successfully use the secure links on key.com and hsn.com. This problem is unique in that it is limited to the qvc.com site.

As mentioned earlier I do use two computers one a desktop and one a laptop. One uses XP and the other Vista. The only things in common is the ISP (Optimum) and the router which we know is not the problem.

The message I get when I click on the secure link on the QVC.com is" Network diagnostics pinged the remote host but did not receive a response. Cannot communicate with

    quality-s.qvc.com (167.140.19.204)

Please keep offering solutions since I do not believe I will hear one from my ISP. Happy New Year

I noticed that the website starts with a normal http (port 80) request.
If you browse over the website, I expect in your case everything to be normal.
The moment you select any of the "customer" information protected area pages, you enter a secure connection (SSL port 443).
At that moment, a certificate between your computer and the server will be released by the server for valid data exchange. Obviously, something goes wrong at your side.
You mentioned your routers are not the problem.
Are there other websites with https (Port443) causing the same problem on your computers?
If so, I think your routers have blocked port 443.
This should not be the case, but it just needs verification.

If other sites are o.k., you can try to add the secure website (because that's where the data is coming from) into your trusted websites in your webbrowser.
A bit mean of me, but I presume you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer.
For IE version 7, here is how to do this;

- In the browser top right you select Extra
- Internet Options
- Security
- Click on the trusted websites (green mark)
- click on the "websites" button
- Enter in the top white field the following website;

https://quality-s.qvc.com

- Make sure that the checkbox at Serververification (https) .... is marked
- and click on "Add"
- Click on close and OK.

Close your webbrowser and open it again and try to acces the website again.

Good luck.

I cannot believe that the ISP blocks such port.
It is used too often on the internet and it is a very important port as well.

In these cases you are mostly caught in a catch 22 and you feel like a ping pong ball between the ISP and Microsoft (your computer).

I just want to know if you would ask someone else with e.g. a laptop if (s)he would experience the same thing when (s)he is connected to the internet via your connection.

If that's the case, then it's the ISP.

What happens if you go to the website of keybank?

    http://www.key.com

They use a complete secure site (port 443).
What happens if you try to access that site as an instance ?

Last tip: try to delete all your temporary internet files on your computer (also the offline files) and finally refresh the webpage.

How to change the external Image settings on Gmail?

Offensive or potentially harmful images are not desired, but it's a challenging job for us to click on 'Show external images' every time we open the mail. Of course, Gmail allows us to choose an option among 'Ask before displaying external images' and 'Always display external images', but we can change the external Image settings on Gmail by six simple steps.

Let's discuss about those steps.

Open the link www.gmail.com to move into the log-in page
Enter your Email address and password to go into your Gmail account; and click on 'log-in'.
Go to the settings and move to your profile photo thumbnail that is located in the upper-right corner of the page
Step into images
Choose one: always display external images or ask before displaying external images
Save changes

Easiest option is to contact with Gmail Customer Service because the technical team help us to execute the steps in a proper manner. It is less time consuming and we suggest for this step. It is safe too..!!!

How do I make a YouTube channel

1. Launch any web browser on your computer that's connected to the internet and visit www.youtube.com.
2. From the YouTube homepage, click on the "Sign In" link that's displayed near the top-right corner of the screen.

3. When the YouTube "Sign In" screen appears (with the Google logo in the upper-left corner), click on the "Create an Account" button that's displayed in the upper-right corner. You'll be prompted to first create a new Google account.
4. At the "Create a New Google Account" screen, fill in the fields. You'll be asked to enter your first and last name. Then you'll be instructed to choose a unique Google username. Next, create and confirm a password for the account, enter your birthday and gender, as well as your mobile phone number and current email address. If you're creating a YouTube channel for your business or service, for example, don't use a personal email address when prompted for your current email address. Select your location from the pull-down menu, and then agree to the "Terms of Service" that are listed on the screen. Click the "Next Step" button to continue.
The Google username you select will also become your YouTube channel name, and a free Gmail address will be issued to the account. Use your business name as your username or choose something that's clever and that your intended audience will identify with. The channel name/username should be easy to spell and something that people will remember. If your YouTube channel will be promoting a product, for example, consider using the name of the product (assuming it is not copyrighted or trademarked by someone other than you or your business) as your username.
5. Next, you'll need to create your Google Account Profile. This includes uploading an optional profile photo. Click on the "Add Profile Photo" button to do this, then click on the "Next Step" button to continue. If you're creating an account for your business or organization, upload a company logo or product photo, as opposed to a personal photo or headshot.
6. Once you establish your Google account, click on the "Back to YouTube" button.
7. Within a few minutes, you'll receive two emails from Google. One will ask you to verify your current email address. Simply click on the link provided within the email to do this. The second email you receive will contain details about your new Gmail account. Save the information within this email for later reference.
Transform Your Google Account into a YouTube Channel
Using your Google account (which also serves as your YouTube account for watching videos), you can easily establish and customize your own YouTube channel, and then populate it with your own videos. Follow these steps to create a free YouTube channel once you have a valid Google account set up.
1. Access www.youtube.com, and sign in using your Google account username and password. The main YouTube home screen will be displayed.
2. Near the upper-right corner of the screen, you'll see your account profile picture. Click on it to reveal the Google Account Menu, which will also be displayed near the top-right corner of the screen.
3. Click on the "My Channel" link in the upper-right portion of the screen. The "Create Your YouTube channel" screen will be displayed. From this initial screen, you'll see your profile photo, as well as your username and/or first and last name displayed. Click on the "Edit" link that's associated with the "From Your Google Profile" option in order to customize your Google profile, which will be your identity containing public information about you that people will see online.
4. Under the "Activities you'll share on your channel" heading, you'll see four options, labeled "Like a video," "Comment on a video," "Favorite a video," and "Subscribe to a channel." Add a checkmark to the checkbox that's associated with each activity you want people who visit your YouTube channel's page to be able to do.
5. Click on the "OK, I'm Ready to Continue" button. Your YouTube Channel has now been created. The next step is to start populating your channel by uploading videos to it.

I Created a gmail account. How do I log in?

After creating your account just visit http://gmail.com

  • If you're taken directly to the sign-in page, enter your username if it's not filled in already and enter your password. If you need to sign in to a different account than the one shown, click Manage accounts on this device.
  • If you see a page describing Gmail instead of the sign-in page, click the Sign in link in the top right corner of the page.

All the information you need can be found on the Gmail help website: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/8494?hl=en

What is my code number?

If you're looking for your ID number, you will find it in the URL (website address) of your profile page.

1. Open your browser, or open a new tab.
2. Navigate to Facebook, either through a bookmark or typing in www.facebook.com
3. Login to your account.
4. Once you log in, click on "Profile" (in the case of the new Facebook layout) in the upper right corner. Older Facebook layouts, bring up your profile by clicking on "Profile" or "Home" then clicking on your username that appears in the upper left corner. This brings you to your profile page.
5. Once your profile page loads, look at the URL in the address bar of your browser. You will see something that looks like this or something similar to this: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/profile.php?id=XXXXXXXX
6. Take note of the following section of the URL address: "/profile.php?id=XXXXXXXX"
7. The "id=XXXXXXXX" is your ID Number. Your ID number may have more or fewer digits than the example provided.
