Question about Uniden BC246T Handheld Scanner

Open Question

Trunking I have a bc246t that is setup to recieve motorola type II system and all IDs are setup properely according to radio reference.com. The fleet map is all 0's as it should be for a type II system, but the scanner does not stop on and active ID. It displays it, but does not stop scanning and un-mute so i can hear a voice. Conventionally programmed it works perfectly. If I turn the squelch down so i hear static on an active ID i can hear a muffled voice through the static. What have I done wrong, the scanner is brand new

SOURCE: Programming Motorola type II system

The BR330T is an analog only scanner. Prince William County's system is 800 MHz digital, which your scanner cannot receive. You can receive the fire department simulcast of "5A" (their fire dispatch channel) on 154.325 in analog mode.

SOURCE: Trunking no longer works on my BCD996T scanner, Conventional work

Hi Mike,

Try updating the firmware and see if this solves the problem. While I understand that it "worked before", some of the programming software has been updated to work only with the newer firmware. Also, the newer versions of programming software are required when importing systems directly from radio database sites (such as radioreference.com).

If this does not work, try to enter system data by hand rather than importing. If trunking works then, it sounds like a software problem with your programming software versus the radio itself.

Hope this helps!

Motorola not receving voice MTX9250

The MTX9250 is usually used as a trunking radio. It is likely programmed to work with a system of towers and will not work radio-to-radio without being reprogrammed. Stop by your local Motorola dealer and inquire about FCC licensing and reprogramming the radios to a simplex (radio-to-radio) frequency. Or if the dealer is the manager of the trunking tower system this radio was originally used with, they may be able to offer you service on their system.

Best regards.

Cannot recieve new Motorla trunking Feq after system upgrade on my Pro 95 scanner. What can I do?? Thanks, Ron

Hi.

They probably went into a digital trunking system. Your Pro-95 will only handle Edacs, Type I and II standard trunking.

Or they changed the trunking voice frequencies and the data (control channel) frequency.

Which system are you trying to listen to? Which city area ??

I have a uniden bearcat scanner and cant pick up my local police dept. I put the frequency in and still dont hear anything. I have a bc145xl 16 channel scanning radio and want to know if its compatible...

If you programmed the correct frequency, you should be getting reception. Check www.RadioReference.com to verify the frequency. Otherwise, you may be too far from the transmitter to receive signals. Try your scanner in other locations, check your antenna, and try receiving the PD on another scanner.

The MARCS - Ohio Multi-Agency Radio Communications system - is a Motorola Type II SmartZone Omnilink Trunking system that utilizes APCO-25 digital transmissions. Your BC145XL is not compatible with trunking or digital systems. In order to follow the MARCS you will need one of the following scanners:
GRE PSR-500, PSR-600
Radio Shack PRO-106, PRO-197, PRO-96, PRO-2096
Uniden BC250D, BC785D, BC296D, BC796D, BCD396T, BCD396T, BCD996T, BCD996XT, or the brand new HomePatrol-1

How to create my own layouts?

Both the MTX8000 B5 & B7 models are Type II Trunking. If you are (un)lucky enough you might find an F3 modem that does Type II.
If it is an MTX8000 and has a front mounted display with either a 6 button or full keypad, you have a radio that will do Type II.
There were a few B3's that were Type II produced by Motorola. However, you can clone a Type II code plug into a B3 radio and it will work just fine.
You can run system watch using a MTS2000 handheld. Firmware version has to be above 5.44 (which has a 512k controller in it). Most MTS2000/MTX8000's only have a 256k controller, which will not work. You can put the radio into RF modem mode from the F4-F4-F4 (Trunking Config).
NOTE: When the radio is in the RF MODEM mode, it will do a self test and then the screen will go blank. The radio DOES NOT have to be programed to the system you want to watch. You set SYSTEMWATCH to the Spectra with RIB mode (works best). Even watches Type I systems.
If you have the accessory adapter for the side connector on the radio, the typical schematic of the speaker mic looks like this.
If you are using a Public Safety speaker mic with the radio, you might want to order part number 3205514W01 to cover the antenna connector on the radio.
If you are trying to program a MTX-838, from what we've heard, you need to use the MTSX software. The RVN4097F ver R02.10.01 RSS package specifically shows it programs the following radios: MT/MTS2000 MTX838/8000/9000. Now, the update for this software is RVN4097M R06.00.00 05 Sept 97, which should mean that it should program the radio as well. The cable you need is the standard MTSX programming cable.
Do you want to build your own programming cable? If you don't want to use an old speaker mic cable, see the individual part numbers of the parts for the Service Cable, below.
You may want to look at the schematic for the RKN4035D Service Cable. This is the actual Motorola cable used for programming and servicing these radios.
The individual part numbers for the components of this cable are listed below.

I just upgraded my firmware to version 2.6...will this scan garland, tx police

If Garland is using a conventional system or an analog trunking system, the BC246T can handle it. If they've gone digital, there's nothing you can do to the scanner to pull them in. For a list of the Garland systems and frequencies, check RadioRefernce.com or CityFreq.com

I want to know what the frequencies are in the digital range what i mean is,like what a digital freguency is

a digital frequency is normally one that is trunked by a digital trunking system. You will need to know what type of trunking system you have, ie: Motorola type I or II, EDACS standard, or SCAT, or EF Johnson. Each one of these uses a different type of tagging to program its frequencies. Some will allow you to just enter the AFS(agency frequency-subfrequency) It looks like this for example: 03-062 Either radioreference.com or your local radio shack should be able to help you in obtaining what you want.
