Hello, I am having problems with my Toshiba Sattelite M30. When I start it up, it's OK, I can see Toshiba picture with info to get to BIOS and Centrino logo as well. But when it passes this part it shows random characters and that's all I can see. Can you help?

Hi, I had same problem with my Sattelite L300. Motherboard has a defect in one Proadlizer film capacitor exactly on the back of CPU, the original ref. is nec-tokin 0E907 (900uF/2.5V) or similar code. I've replaced it by 4 tantalum capacitores of 470uF/2.5V each and 2 capacitores of 220uF/2.5V, all in paralell mode in same old place of nec-tokin component. Vote for me... :)
From your description it sounds like the LED board underneath may be faulty in the sense that some of the LED's may have blown, this can be repaired but i advis that you take to a qualified engineer to assess and then replace

I decided to read this and I am not exactly 100 sure what the proplem is. I did want to offer a suggestion though. If you are having problems with both the screen and an external monitor, the problem may be with the graphics hardware. If you have a card, it may need to be replaced. If not, i'm very sorry. The motherboard may need to be replaced. Hope this helps.
have you tried changing the resolution, if not try this power on your laptop press F8 run in safe mode go to device manager an disable your display adapter after disabling reboot windows after rebooting go back to device manager enable display adapter and go display properties an change resolution.
